So, I've got This list for Tau and I'm hoping to bolster it up to 2k pts with allies. Need help on suggesting a Space Marine list with termies as troops. Deathwing? Feel free to CC I need help getting this sorted.

HQ:

Commander- Shas'el

Team Leader: Infil BC DC + 2 Gun Drone
Suit: BC, DC + 2 Gun Drone
Suit: BC, DC + 2 Gun Drone

3x Crisis PR, MP, MT +team lead with HWDC HW-BS and Shield Drone (229 pts)

TROOP:

6X Fire Warriors (58 pts)

8X Pathfinders, in devilfish (179 pts)

1x Pirahnha with FB, BS (70)

HEAVY:

1x Broadside team with 2x suits and 1x shield drone (160 pts)

2x Hammerhead with railgun, burst cannons, Mt, TL, BS (350 pts)

I know stealh suits were crap in 5th, but I'm itching to try em out in 6th, if they don't work I have 3 more suits to toss in, in their stead.

Battle Barge Impossible Fortress

I've got a suggestion, and it could really keep your Firewarriors alive long enough to actually do some good (aka hold objectives).

Sorcerer: Mark of Tzeentch, Doombolt 140pts

9 Thousand Sons: Doombolt 254pts

Allies with hardy troops that can be deployed in the open while walking 6" a turn if need be and give steady cover saves to units behind them, and being able to stay in combat due to the new Fearless rules so that the Tau firewarriors can stay out of melee. I would even rapid fire + charge on a unit of terminators or something, to save the Tau from having to fire on stuff deepstriking in your deployment zone. Yes, I said charge. You'll be in combat the rest of the game.

Also, if units try to target the Tsons with psychic powers, you have two sorcerers with Mastery Level 2. Against Tyranids, for example, you'll be using a 4+ most of the time to stop their debuff powers.

Sure, this allied force is suggested because I play Thousand Sons, but it makes perfect sense to add units that can trade out a 10pt power for the chance to roll Hallucination, which have the chance to stop units in their tracks. Especially units that can solo your Tau by themselves. The access to 2 BRB psychic powers via the Tsons is very nice for Tau.

Need of cc is a given for any tau list. So, cc muhreens?

1. Blood Angel jumpers. Most models for points. With Mephiston, less, but he's a beast.
2. SW - TWC or GHs
3. BT - although I don't have their codex for specifics

Consider taking necrons.

A Overlord with a warschythe and squad of warriors with 2 solar pulse crypteks costs just under 300 points and gives you an additional 2 turns of night fighting. You would need to put Black Sun on all your units but nightfighting really increases your survivability.

Also, 2 bare minimum troop choices doesn't seem like enough.

Though you could just take eldar for a nice psyker.

How do you get 2 solar pulses in a allies list I thought you can't give your crypteks the same wargear unless you took 2 HQ's (which you can't as allies). I'd be interested to know as i agree Cron's are the way to go for Tau allies as you can give blacksun filters to all of your Tau.

So, I really dug the idea of tossing in some necrons for extra night fighting. I also tossed in some more troops. Here's what I got now, let me know what you guys think:

can you take 1 cryptek with solar pulse and one with solar pulse and gaze of flame? Or am I reading the rules wrong?

The only downside to the solar pulses is if your enemy takes an all melee list, but most armies have some shooty.

The way I understood it was that wargear couldn't be duplicated among members of the same royal court. So I'd need a second Overlord for 2 solar pulse's.
