Hey,

With the new edition gone up and outflanking proving to be a lot more deadly, I was wondering what you guys think of outflanking Al'rahem and his platoon?
For 455 points you can get:
Platoon command squad: 195
chimera, Al'rahem, 4 x meltagun

Infantry squad: 130
Chimera, plasmapistol, plasmagun

Infantry squad: 130
Chimera, plasmapistol, plasmagun

This gives you 3 chimeras (probably with heavy flamer and multilaser) in the enemies backfield where they can cause serious harm. However even the squads embarked in it are capable of dishing out some damage against vehicles or heavy infantry. (I think very few armies like it when this shows up in their backfield.)

On the other hand, it still are 455 points, which can probably be invested in something else.

Bah, your thinking too small. I outflanked 6 chimeras once. It's quite nice.

Consider taking creed and sending a Leman Russ Demolisher in with the outflanking chimeras. If you enemy does't like an Al'rahem platoon showing up in his backfield, how about a beast like the demolisher. Additionally, in 6th edition's version of the Fearless USR Creed's special order is much more attractive back at your main line.

Don't forget to get gunnery sarge harker in there to outflank some vets in a chimera.

And get an astropath as well, arrive on turn 2 and re roll to determine side.

You can also use scout sentinels, vendettas...guard love outflanking.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

I'm a big fan of running Big Al and Friends as lean as possible. His PCS gets a heavy flamer and two foams, each infantry squad gets a flamer, and each chimera is heavy flamer and multilayer.

All I'm generally looking fr them to do is flush things out under the real guns of the army.

Generally speaking, if you are going to flank an enemy early in a battle you will want to dedicate approximately 2/3 of your force projection to that attack. This is due to the proximity your flankers will have to your enemy and the lack of preparatory fire your to soften them up beforehand. In contrast, if your flankers arrive later in the game you should only dedicate 1/3 or so. However, with the 6th edition reserve rules combined with astropaths and comms relays we can be essentially guaranteed of turn 2 arrivals as opposed to hoping for late games arrivals. In conclusion, I would suggest a flanking force of about 2/3 of your force projection.

Additionally, due to the proximity your flanking force will have to the enemy you should equip them with high focus medium to short range firepower, e.g., demolishers, flamers, meltas, demo charges, etc....
