Hey all,

I'm a UK newcomer to the forum and to the hobby. I mean really new, I don't have a single model yet.
I've always been interested in warhammer/40k since I was much younger and picked up a copy of white dwarf mag and gazed upon the amazing artwork splashed across the pages. But I never did get round to starting out so now I'm going to tend to that.

I hawk really torn between a few armies. I've been reading so much about who's-who and the back stories etc, I've been into a couple of GW stores to see people play and attended a local(ish) game club.

Before I started reading all the fluff I'd have gone straight for CSM as my first army, now that I know more of the stories I'm torn between -

Vanilla SM (Just get AoBR OR write my own bit of fluff and do custom colour scheme)
Space Wolves (love the fluff)
Blood angels (they are red!)
Tyranids
Then also CSM

Its driving me mad not knowing what to go for but really looking forward to getting stuck in. The modelling and displaying side of it is my primary interest with playing the game being secondary.

Hi and welcome to Dakka! I vote for CSM...

Astra Militarum
Iron Warriors Army: Enyo Company
Enyo (Greek: Ενυώ, English translation: "warlike" in Greek mythology; Roman: Bellona), was an ancient goddess of war, acting as a counterpart and companion to the war god Ares. She is also identified as his sister, and daughter of Zeus and Hera in a role closely resembling that of Eris; with Homer in particular representing the two as the same goddess. As goddess of war, Enyo is responsible for orchestrating the destruction of cities

Thanks

Well as I said the modelling side of it is first and foremost for me, but the fluff still matters, I wanna display my army/armies and make little stories up about what's going on - then pack them up and cart them off when it's game time.
I was rather surprised to find I wasn't all that interested in the CSM back story, thought it'd be right up my street. I do however love some of the models.

SW models are cool but I'd not want to do them in the blue/grey scheme they are always in, I see them in more of a blue-green shade.

I like Necrons but I've ruled them out, seeing as the main friend I have who plays 40K, plays Necrons.

Welcome to Dakka, Xiorell.

I second the vote for CSM.

There are several legions and warbands to choose from, each with an intriguing back story, or you could just create your own.

The models are great, there are new ones on the way, and the opportunities for painting and converting are limitless.

Plus, you don't want to be associated with the misguided servants of the false emperor.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Hey there.

We're looking for players to attend a 40K Narrative Campaign Weekend.

The link will take you to our dakka thread where we are co-ordinating the event.

Animosity - In the Discordia System

As far as your options go there is little to stop you modelling a Chaos Wolves Force inspired by the ill-fated Wolf Brothers who fell to Chaos and mutation. (I think that was there name, they were the only SW successor chapter).

Its a cool story and will allow you to paint a variant scheme of your own whilst using wolves codex!

Also, steer clear of AOBR now... new rules etc, and new box in few months!
