Hey,
So the guy i game with happens to be TFG... maybe thats a bit much, lets just say that he is a cheese steward. He has been using the DE/Eldar death star since 6th edition came out and has only recently lost to a nid list with a lot of flyers. Our next game i know he now plans to bring his Deamon army and outfit his DPs with wings. So I will be looking at at the lest 4 DPs possibley all with wings, as well as a bunch of deamonettes and a couple of greater deamons. There is a very good chance we will be playing a 4 person game so he will probably also have a Nurgle CSM army on his side. In the case of a 4 player game I might also have the help of another friends Gks or his Deathwing. Anyway here is what i put together I have no allusions winning, all i am trying to do is have a good time and at possible make him work for the win a little bit. anyway here it is.

HQ
Librarian CA Sevren Loth 205
Biomancy Spec, Power Axe C:SM

HQ
Belial 130
SB, Sword of Silence DA

Troops
Deathwing Terminators 265
Apothecary, Heavy Flamer, Chainfist DA

Troops
Deathwing Terminators 250
Cylcone Missile Launcher, chainfist DA

Troops
Tactical Squad 2 210
5 extra SM, Plasma Gun, plasma cannon, Combi Plasma , Power Weapon C:SM

Troops
Tactical Squad 3 210
5 extra SM, Plasma Gun, plasma cannon, CombiPlasma , Power Weapon C:SM

Elites
Mortis Dread 165
2x TL Lascannon DA

Transport
Razorback 75
Las/Plas C:SM

Las/Plas C:SM

Sevrin Loth has the option to take 6 powers from either Biomancy, Pyromancy or Telekinisis. The mortis dreads are just like riflemen but with TL lascannons and they gain the Skyfire and Interceptor special rule when stationary. I am planning on making use of Loths 2+/2+ saves coupled with liberal usage of endurance. It may be beardy and/or cheesy to abuse the rules in such a fashion but that is what I face every week and this week i refuse to go down without a fight. I almost forgot to mention that the load out of the termies is not optimal but its what i have to work with at the moment. still need to invest in a couple of boxes of assault termies.
What do ya think?

so..uhh. I guess i should have been more specific in my question. do you think this is over the top? is it totally not cool to even consider bringing an IA character? i don't want too look like an a hole, i just want to stand a chance against multiple Flying Monstrous Creatures and/or the popular DE death star.
any feed back is appreciated. thanks.

What do you think about plasma cannons in tac squads? I was thinking i might swap them out for Lascannons just so they could get some more use in overwatch but then i would have many blast weapons.

Hmm, is it the IA rules that are scaring everyone off? All i really want to know is if the plasma cannons in the tac squad are a good idea, has anyone had good luck with them? any C&C is appreciated. Thanks.

I have no experience with IA rule and have seen only limited use of them at my local store. Plasma cannon on a tactical squad is generally not a good idea.

The reason being that a heavy weapon on your tactical squad means you either have to combat squad to remain mobile. Or you will lug around that gun as your entire squad moves. Plasma cannon cannot snap fire and thus he will spend most of his time sitting on an objective.

Plasma cannon unfortunately is not a good objective sitter for a 5-man combat squad. There is a high chance that he will kill himself with getting hot and thus making the remaining 4 guy useless. If it was a missile launcher or a lascannon, the enemy will have to deal with this squad. Otherwise, the heavy weapon will keep on firing every single turn.

This is combined with the fact that plasma cannon cannot hit flyer and flying MCs. You are thus setting yourself up to fail against a list which you know will have flying MC/daemon.

If you want to go mass-cheese against flying daemon: take Null Zone on your librarian (either by taking another librarian or by not swaping out power for Servin Loth). Daemon only has invulnerable saves and thus forcing them to reroll those saves => good for you.

You can also take a Quadgun on an aegis defense line and put your troops there. This gun + the dread will (for sure) hit those flying units every single turn. With Null Zone, that means he has to reroll those invul save which he passes. Then he has to take Grounding test which if he fails will force him to reroll his invul saves again.
