Subject: Which faction to choose? Cryx? Menoth? Circle?

War machine and Hordes is starting to grow in my area so I'm thinking about going ahead and joining in as a change up from 40k (which I do thoroughly enjoy).
So as any smart gamer who started another system by just buying whatever looked cool does, I am trying to do some research first. I do like that people say that you can use basically any unit effectively, but I would like a general overview of these three armies that have all caught my attention in equal amounts.
Cryx, Menoth, and Circle.

I did go through the begginer faqs, but they don't have quite the detail I'm looking for. Obviously I realize that I won't get a full picture, but I'd like to narrow it down some.
Models that appeal to me visually:
Cryx:
Lich Lord Asphyxious
Lich Lord Terminus
Lich Lord Venethrax
Lord Exhumator Scaverous
Deathjack
Nightmare
Reaper
Seether
Scavenger
Darragh Wrathe
Skarlock Thrall
Warwitch Siren
Bane Knights
Bane Thralls
Blackbane's Ghost Raiders Unit
Bloodgorgers Unit
Satyxis Blood Witches
The Withershadow Combine
Menoth:
The High Reclaimer
Feora, Protector of the Flame
Grand Exemplar Kreoss
Hierarch Severius
Blessing of Vengeance
Dervish
Vigilant
Vanquisher
Repenter
Exemplar Errant Seneschal
High Exemplar Gravus
Paladin of the Order of the Wall
Exemplar Bastions
Exemplar Cinerators
Exemplar Errants
Exemplar Vengers
Daughters of the Flame
Circle Orboros
Kaya the Wildborne
Kaya the Moonhunter & Laris
Grayle the Farstrider
Krueger the Stormlord
Morvahna The Autumnblade
Kromac the Ravenous
Feral Warpwolf
Argus
Megalith
Pureblood Warpwolf
Warpwolf Stalker
Wolf Lord Morraig
Tharn Ravager Whitemane
Blackclad Wayfarer
Druids of Orboros
Reeves of Orboros Unit
Stone Keeper
Tharn Ravager Chieftain UA
Tharn Wolf Riders Unit
Warpborn Skinwalkers
Wolves of Orboros Unit
So, there's plenty that appeals to me in each army.
As far as play style goes, I tend to play fairly aggressively. I like units that hit hard, especially if they are durable as well, and I'm ok with havign less units and models on the board if they are better quality. I also like being able to sit back and drop devastating quality firepower. Examples of armies I play regularly are thunderwolf cavalry heavy Space Wolves (hence my attraction to Circle. I love dogs and wolves), terminator and landraider heavy Space Wolves, Black Templars with large crusader squads and terminators backed up by quality predator or vindicator firepower, and Leman Russ heavy Imperial Guard. Generally when I play a video game, I tend to play well armored fighter type characters that can hold the front line, or an offensive minded spell slinger. Being able to move quickly is great, but moving slowly isn't a deal breaker if the unit is tough.
Hopefully this gives a better picture of what I'm looking for. Thanks Automatically Appended Next Post: Surtur wrote:I'll just answer this with this: yes.

@stewie (cuz I'm not quoting that post!): You could have just said you liked all of their models.
Honestly, you can just buy the 3 battleboxes if you're that undecided and try them out that way. Let's you get a glimpse at each faction for a relatively small price tag. Sell the ones you decide against or keep them for later project.

Haha. Maybe I do. But, I was asked a question, so I went ahead and answered it.
At least the battleboxes aren't too expensive....

I second the battle boxes. They will give you a good feal for each faction and you get everything you need to start out with, rule,s cards, and models. Plus, if you end up not liking it you only dropped $50 or less if you bought online.

What kind of faction do you want?
Cryx has good jacks and outstanding infantry and tends to be an infantry-centric faction more often than not. You can run jacks fine and they are solid, but those banes outshine almost everything. Their support is uaually lacking but the withershadow combine and warwitch sirens are powerful exceptions. They have dismal ranged options but great melee options. their magic is pretty strong too.
Protectorate are very good at running jacks and infantry alike. They have unbelievable support options and play an aggressive control game. They have very good melee and ranged options but almost all of their magic is support. They are always my suggestion for people who want an experience as different from 40k as possible.
Circle tend to be beast-oriented with good support and fair infantry to back them up. they are a very slippery hit and run type faction and don't fare well fighting toe to toe. They have few ranged options, very good melee options, and a whole lot of magic -both support and offensive.

Exemplar Bastions have the ability to spread damage between them...with 8 damage each and 16 arm. If you can cast defender's ward (or some such equivalent) on them, they are arm 18. They are also fearless, being an exemplar unit.

Space Marines, Orks, Imperial Guard, Chaos, Tau, Necrons, Germans (LW), Protectorate of Menoth

That is definitely the kind of information I'm looking for. I'm starting to think that Menoth might be the best place to start for me. Seems like they are pretty durable and solid with plenty of tricks. Plus I do love holy knights.
Circle is also appealing because I really like their wolf models.

Bastions arent that great defenders ward is usually better elsewhere.
Most heavies can die to another heavy in 1 turn.
Menoth moves slow.
Cryx and circle move fast and can hit as hard.
Every faction has its ups and downs. They are all good.
Cryx has alot of debuffs.
Menoth buffs itself.
Circle has alot of movement tricks and more.
To me.
Menoth is a slow moving brick that buffs itself for damage along with denial.
Circle is a high speed hit and run army.
Cryx debuffs. Is fast. Bane thralls are probly the hardest hotting infantry in the game. Hard to kill also.
They have some denial also.

Well, I decided to go ahead and ordered the 2 player Warmachine box. That way I get the mini-rulebook as well as the Menoth starter set. I'll sell the Khador, but I'll play them first to see how I like them. I'm not huge on their asthetic though.
When the 2 player Hordes box comes out, I'll pick it up for the Circle Orboros force and probably split it with someone who wants the Legion portion.
Of course, now that I'll have my initial force arriving in a few days, I need to start figuring out how to play it.
