So, now that I have one whole game of 6th Edition under my belt, I've decided that it's time to build my first TAC list for the new version of 40k. Instead of filling the table with Vendettas or calling upon kick-ass Grey Knights, I've decided to ally my Guard with a detachment of Sisters of Battle. The Sisters interest me for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that no one else else in my gaming club seems to be running them. Beyond that, I'm interesting in using a Sisters Squad to provide a more solid anchor for holding home objectives, and I want to see if the Exorcist can give my list a better tool with which to counter the Monstrous Creature Nid lists that ate my lunch so often in 5th Edition. So without further delay, I present the first draft of my new Guard list.

PRIMARY DETACHMENT - IMPERIAL GUARD

HQ

Company Command Squad 205pts
4x Plasma Guns
Plasma Pistol (Company Commander)
Astropath
in Chimera (Multi-Laser/Hull Heavy Bolter)

Captain Al'Rahem
4x Grenade Launchers
in Chimera (Multi-Laser/Hull Heavy Bolter)

Infantry Squad 115pts
1x Meltagun
in Chimera (Multi-Laser/Hull Heavy Flamer)

Infantry Squad 115pts
1x Meltagun

Veteran Squad 155pts
3x Meltaguns
in Chimera (Multi-Laser/Hull Heavy Bolter)

FAST ATTACK

Vendetta Gunship 130pts

HEAVY SUPPORT

Leman Russ Squadron 300pts
2x Battle Tanks (Hull Heavy Bolters)

Hydra Flak Tank 75pts

Hydra Flak Tank 75pts

ALLIED DETACHMENT - SISTERS OF BATTLE

HQ
Canoness 85pts
Power Axe
Combi-Melta

TROOPS
Battle Sister Squad 174pts
1x Multi-Melta
1x Flamer
Power Axe (Sister Superior)
2x Additional Battle Sisters

HEAVY SUPPORT
Exorcist 145pts
Hunter Killer Missile

POINTS: 1,749

The strategy of the list is nominally similar to what I was attempting in 5th Edition. The tanks, Company Command Squad and Sisters start on the table, putting bodies on my home objectives and hopefully putting heavy firepower on my opponent. On Turn 2-3 my Outflanking Platoon arrives, potentially threatening flanks and (more importantly) giving me a shot at controlling or denying opposing objectives. The Vendetta is there as much to deal with enemy Flyers as it is to be a Flyer in its own right. I worry that I might not have quite enough bodies in the list, which I could sort out in theory by dropping some of the more esoteric upgrades from the army in favor of adding another Chimera Squad to Al'Rahem's platoon. The only issue with that is that I don't own six Chimeras . I also feel like I'm running a bit too much Melta, which I may solve by finding the points to switch my Melta Veteran Squad for a Plasma Veteran Squad.

I would really appreciate some opinions on the list, so please, have at it!

Did you post a really similar list recently? This looks really familiar.

I'm not sure what the sisters are getting you that you can't get from more IG.

No, I haven't posted an army list since around May, and it certainly wasn't a Sisters Allied list

Let's see, I'm getting S8 AP1 shots with a 48" range, and Troops with a 3+ armor save that can actually hit the broad side of a barn with their weapons. I'm also getting a bit of variety in both my army, and my model collection.

Fair enough. If you're looking for variety, it's fine. If you're looking for efficacy, swap the can for any of the named chars and drop the sisters to 10 and give them a rhino.

Of all the things to ally for, the Exo isn't usually it.

I know that some people are a proponent of using the Medusa instead of the Exorcist, but being able to Pie Plate things isn't really a concern of mine (I mean, I'm used to running two Griffons, two Demolishers and two Battle Tanks, after all). What I want out of the Exorcist is the ability to put wounds on things like Tervigons and Hive Tyrants before they're in charge range.

I mean, hey, at least I didn't add a Squadron of Penitent Engines.

Thanks for the tips on the HQ/Troops selection. I've already been looking at Kyrinov as an option if I go back to using a Guard Blob to camp my home objective, and I have a goofy Uriah Jacobus Ogryn Deathstar idea that I might try, for the heck of it.

St. Celestine is a great choice for an HQ in the new edition of Sisters of Battle. Unfortunately, faith point possibilities and Witch Hunter wargear has been dumbed down to a painfully low level with the new codex.

Looks like a good army list! Pretre is right though, look at getting enough points to whack your sisters in a Rhino.

Side note: Exorcists have saved me many-a-time from a monstrous creature. You'll be a very happy war gamer once you see a 6 on that "how many shots do i get" dice

"I'm an Inquisitor, I do not get angry"

Celestine looks like an excellent unit, I'm just not sure how to get the best out of her. It could be my limited experience with Not Guard showing, but there doesn't seem to be an option in either the IG Dex or the Sisters Dex that gives her good support. I mean, Seraphim are the obvious choice, but they seem kind of...lacking as a close combat unit.
