I have been thinking of buying some death korps of krieg recently, and realised they are resin. However, I've heard Citadel finecast are notorious for being riddled with imperfections. Since Forgeworld is practically Games Workshop, would the Forgeworld sets be the same?

Thanks for reading!

nope its a different kind of resin and also a different casting technique... forgeworld does sometimes have some airbubbles or miscasts, buts its way, WAY better then finecast and i love forgeworld products

Some Forgeworld stuff is; they use spin casting resin (exactly the same as Finecast ) for a few lines. However, their response to quality issues is far better than GW's; the event-only skinwolf was originally in not-Finecast-but-is-really, and was TERRIBLE. They have since redone the moulds for pressure cast resin and the one I got sent was fine.

Larger models are likely to be pressure cast; I think Forgeworld are actively trying to avoid the spin casting, but are under certain pressure to produce low production cost lines. All casting at GW Lenton (including Forgeworld) is done in a centralised department now, and has been for a while. Forgeworld no longer directly manufacture stuff; the job is done by the centralised department.

The way to tell (other than the softness / full of bubbles) is that the pressure cast stuff will have a wedge-shaped block attached. This is where the resin is poured into a mould before being shoved in a pressure chamber. The Finecast type stuff will come on a sprue just like a Finecast mini.

I'm pretty certain the Krieg lines are mostly pressure cast. I doubt they'd have willingly moved them to spin casting. You should be fine.

Edit: DijnsK is 100% wrong, by the way - they do use the spincasting method (but not the Finecast brand name). I can provide photographic evidence of the Finecastish Skin Wolf, but as it's been remastered I have removed most photos that I plastered around the web. I still can't post on Forgeworld's wall on Facebook. They weren't very happy with me, lol. Or, if you want further proof, buy the Space Marine character upgrade pack.

I concur. The Space Marine Character Upgrade Pack is pretty much the same as Finecast. I have it sitting on my desk and would gladly post a photo of it, but I am vacationing at the beach currently. I will add, however, as of late my Finecast models have been surprisingly free of defects.

I know early Tartaros pattern Terminators were reported as being Finecast-like and coming on sprues. However, the ones I received are pressure cast.

Thanks everyone, I'll happily go ahead and buy some now without worries of defects and imperfections.
Thanks a ton winterdyne for that in-depth and lengthy response!;

That's interesting and in line with what happened with the Skin Wolf. I'd heard some horror stories about the Tartaros Termies and held off getting some despite liking the sculpts because of that. If they're pressure cast I'll probably give them a go.

Nice one, Forgeworld.

My FW Executioner turret was perfectly fine, needed the mould likes filed down a bit more aggressively than the GW plastc models but that probably because the resin is a harder.

Just wish it had the more GW / Super-heavy style oblong gun rather than the slightly hideous "dustbin with pipes" type cannon!"

I have bought a few things from Forge wrold and thay have had some inperfections. Mainly little holes from air bubbles it would seem. They have all been easilay filled though with a bit of green stuff.
