hey Dakka...

here is my plastic version of Tycho, built from Sanguinary Guard, DC, and Captain parts...

the voting link has the montage with a close up of Tycho's face and chest that shows off the detail better than these wide shots...
check it out:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/310528

i tried a lot of new things on this mini such as a corpse on the base, zenithal style black (instead of just straight line highlights), battle damage on black, sculpting a face mask, and doing a solid black backing to the base rubble (hopefully giving the impression that there is more structure to the rubble behind the minis, instead of a rather convenient rockpile), and much more...

this is the furthest i've ever pushed outside of my comfort zone so far...
hopefully producing my best work yet, but that's up to you to decide...

i'll have a full write-up on my blog soon, where i will go into all the experiments and ideas behind this piece...

thanks for looking...

i hope you like him...

cheers
jah

[CLASSIFIED]

That is awesome, really well done

in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun

Really Amazing work! The ork is great but I must say the weathering on the gun/armor really puts it over the top.

I THINK it's the Sanguinary Guard head, but could be the Death Company one. Either way, he's mentioned the mask is sculpted.

Fantastic work and an inspiration to try and reach your lofty heights. Can I ask where the bloodied wing on the shoulder pad came from, or is it more sculpting?

You are correct. It's a Sanguinary Guard head with the sculpt he mentioned.

The wing looks like the one from the DC box with some blood droplet sculpts... maybe.

thanks guys...
i'm glad everyone likes Tycho...
a lot of hard work went into this dude...

for those interested in the build, here's the complete write-up from my blog:

http://jahminis.blogspot.mx/

the head is from the Sanguinary Guard kit, with the mask sculpted on...
legs, torso, arms, and right shoulder pad are also from the SG kit...

the wing is from the Death Company box...
i cut off the big blood drop gem and used it where i cut the gun off of the SG arm, and then sculpted the three little blood drops for the 3rd Company symbol...

thanks again...

cheers

Wondering Why the Emperor Left

The Warp

That is amazing. It has a feeling of movement, like this is a picture snapped by a war reporter, right before Tycho meltas that ork's face.

"The uniforms of the Imperial guard are camouflaged in order to protect their wearers by hiding them from sight. the principle is that what the enemy cannot see, he cannot kill. This is not the way of the Adeptus Astartes. A Space Marine's armour is bright with heraldry that proclaims his devotion to his Chapter and the beloved Emperor of Mankind. Our principle is that what the enemy can see, he will soon learn to fear." -The codex Astartes
