Hi All

I can no longer access Dakka at work damn websense. I don't think they have changed the filters as it is showing as category games and that's been banned for ages. Does anyone know if Dakka had changed It's description?

Thanks
Spank

If I had to guess - someone actually looked at the log files and moved it to the banned list.

If your company uses a service - they are often moving targets with the lists of restricted access sites. If it is handled internally - chances are someone in the IT department looked at bandwidth use and saw a spike from this site, investigated and locked it down.

That's a little harsh and in my experience a little untrue. Seems like lot of people don't work at work.

Anyway I mainly used it at lunch times, only get 30mins so doesn't really ever seem worth going out, and if I do I just end up tempted by gw

Make sure there's no button allowing you to grab a 60-minute session.
Websense (at least the versions I have administered) usually have an option to give limited access to sites or categories, which the admins can flag up easily.
Next time you try to get here, read the entire block page. There may be instructions on how to get past it.

Nevermind breaks, lunch, slow days, waiting on hold/code compilation/vendor responses/etc. There's all sorts of reasons for downtime at work.

Yeah we have that at work now, 60 minutes I can live with but it comes in 10 minute chunks which is fething annoying, it just cuts out half way through posting a massage. 50% of the time you loose your post. My post were littered with spelling errors and half typed words as a result of trying to speed type as a result.

This was the primary driver in me getting a smart phone! It has also meant that my posts are filled with errors due to predicta text and I randomly add friends because of small screens and sausage fingers. Damn technology!

Whats the point of a comment like that Neconillis ? You angry because some people read dakkdakka at work ?

+1 to Vaktathi

When you have multi screens, its not hard to use one for Dakka and read it now and then while your downloading/working on things.

Actually, our websense started blocking it as well last week. I thought it was me as well, but I think it is just a keyword hit (games) that wasn't there before.

Ours too. It was never caught as "Games" before this week.

Perhaps it was caused by the addition of the Facebook applet on the front page. If your company blocks Facebook, the new FB presence (as small and convenient as it is) on the site might have triggered Dakka being added to the blocked list.

Just theorizing as to the causes.

Yep, it's blocked at my work too. Only went on it at lunch times and it made good reading while munching a sandwich.

My work does block face book as it happens.

It's a real pain not being able to go on at lunch anymore.

Suddenly became blocked the other week for me too.
FWIW I don't think Facebook is the cause as that's blocked too but on sites I can get on it just blocks the Facebook part and displays the rest as normal.

Used to post from work until we got a new proxy server with something called Bluecoat web security. It promptly blocked DAKKA because it must be some foul computer game.

This is the real reason my avatar is always ready for the holidays.

Weird, websense at my office is now flagging up Dakka as games too. then it was okay now it's stopped again, Grrrrr!

Smart phones are okay for posting here but I tend to accidentally make some right grammatical howlers.
