How does an Eldar Aspect Warrior activate their warmask?

Have you read "The Path of the Warrior"? That explains it pretty well. They go through a bunch of rituals with their Exarch to bring forth their war mask, and there aspect of Kaela Mensha Khaine. Exarchs always have their war mask on.

Could an Aspect Warrior bring out their warmask without an Exarch?

A warmask is just a mental state/psychological state. Eldar are prone to extreme emotions and if they focus on too many things at once they risk becoming Dark Eldar. As a result they train on the Path of the Warrior, but learn to separate their state as a warrior from their state as a Eldar citizen. An Eldar with their warmask on is a merciless killer who will gun down children, an Eldar without one can be seen as sincere and kind.

An Eldar simply "trains" their Warmask, the ability to go in and out of this warrior state as need be. An Eldar who loses the ability to control his Warmask becomes an Exarch, trapped forever on the path of the warrior.

QFT. Good explanation here.

LoneLictor on thread about an ork choking the Emperor:

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

It's what the psych people call a "dissociative state". Part training, part ritualised. There is both a mental and physical component to it. For the aspect warriors, receiving the shrine's blessing and mark in blood is a part of it, as is donning the 'robes of battle'.

They don the 'mask' and from that point until they remove it (which may have a physical aid - i.e. literally removing one's helmet) they become someone else. This is NOT ME doing this.

Path of the Warrior is a good start to explain it. As is a couple of short pieces Gav wrote years ago in WD.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
