Hey mates, while gathering my Steel Legion army and play testing it at my store, a buddy of mine at the table next to us ended up playing against a guy traveling from Colorado and when he saw that his opponent pulled out the GK codex, we all assumed that he would do what every cheesy GK player will do in this edition , the Drago list w/Paladins. However, we where surprised when he pulled out (from memory), Inquisitor Coteaz, 2x Stormraven gunships, 1x Dreadknight, and at least 40x to 50x plus Stormtrooper models he was running as Warrior Acolyte's w/Carapace Armor and Hellguns, and 2x to 3x rhinos. Seeing my buddies face, he went on to explain that the only reason he is running this list is because he wanted to run a "Stormtrooper IG Army", however the only way he could achieve that is by running the GK list and using Coteaz to make it happen with Warrior Acolytes as he makes all Henchmen troop choices. Now granted, they dont have BS4 and that they dont get any of the special rules that normal IG Stormtroopers get, however they are 3 points cheaper, can take 3x Special Weapons instead of 2x, and they have access to Rhinos and Razorbacks or can be mounted in Stormraven Gunships on top of getting benefits from some GK special rules. Although I didnt get to see much of there game as I was busy kicking some Orcs teeth in ( Demolishers vs Big Orc Hordes equals very satisfying results ), however apparently not only did his list do very well, he actually managed to pull off a solid win against my friends Space Wolves. Now granted this is just an example but to be honest, I do like the idea and fluff of this "Stormtrooper List" using Coteaz and the GK Codex, and just wanted to hear your guys thoughts and opinions on it and if it would be worth something to play with.

I love storm troopers and it sounds like a lot of fun. I already have 40 kasrkin models too so it wouldn't take much to do it. But if I was to do this I would probably use the imperial guard codex and run full storm trooper squads two vet squads with carapace and a command squad with carapace. All modeled to look like storm troopers.

That sounds like a blast to play! With Allies now too, you can add in some staple IG units (i.e. Leman Russ).

Thats what I thought too. It seems like an awesome idea as not only do I benefit from having a lot of AP3 on the table, I also am able to mix things up a bit. However running vets w/Carapace armor would be awesome too, only downside being that they dont have access to Hellguns, with is what appealed to me so much about the Inquisitor "Storm Trooper" list as it means they will pretty much be able to kill anything but Terminators and other units with a 2+ armor save instantly. That being said, what would you run besides these guys? I do like the idea of adding Stormravens as they are very good this edition, as well as using IG as allies to get some LRBT's as I am currently trying to stay away from running any sort of Space Marine units.

That sounds like an amazing army. Kudos to that guy for pulling off a non-standard list like that!

Doing an Inquisition list also makes it appear more in line with the studio fluff, as Inquisition Storm Troopers seem to be somewhat more numerous than the "real" ones from the Munitorum.
That said, GW did release this list for Apoc: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2620180_NEW_Imperial_Guard_-_Storm_Trooper_Strike_Force.pdf
Not sure, maybe it'll inspire someone.

Not a bad list, however it seems its more qualified for flyer-heavy list then a more balanced one.

Yeah, guess it's more fluffy than viable... unless used in conjunction with something else. I suppose the problem is that Munitorum Storm Troopers don't really employ stuff like tanks or even Chimaeras; they're by nature designed as an add-on to existing IG rather than a standalone.

No such limitations for an IST force, though! In fact, I've seen some pretty awesome Inquisition Chimaeras in the past.

Had I realised this was possible, I'd have kept my GK codex instead of switching to IG.

The Kasrkin were just men. It made their actions all the more astonishing. Six white blurs, they fell upon the cultists, lasguns barking at close range. They wasted no shots. One shot, one kill. - Eisenhorn: Malleus

Heh.
It's the reason I STILL have my GK codex and gave the IG one away.

I had a stormtrooper IG army under doctrines.
I had a stormtrooper DH army under the old codex.

I now just have a pile of henchmen.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I'm currently putting together a Skitarii list that makes use of hellgun-carapace Acolytes, and I have to say that the AP3 you'll have as standard makes mincemeat out of SM armies. Not to mention you'll also have access to other things from the GK codex like Psyflemen (can Count As mobile gun-platforms) and the Psyker henchmen (S10 AP1 Large Blast templates fluffed as orbital bombardment? Yes, please!).

Same goes for me mate. Currently I have around 25x Cadian Kasrikin models that I have been trying to find a use for and I am tempted to make a list out of them using the Warrior Acolytes. At the moment, II am considering running them in a Mechanized list, however besides getting at least 2x Stormraven gunships and some more Stormtrooper models, and I do plan to run some servitors as well since they are a very cheap way of getting some much needed fire-support for my army.
