I used to play down at the Block in Orange many years ago and have recently gotten back into the hobby and picked up a 6th edition rulebook along with Necrons. Are there any hobby stores or groups that play around here? I've only found the Games Workshop on Central!
Thanks!

We have a store finder on this site (look at the top of the page).
Much of LA though doesn't have many great options.
The only 3 I tend to play at are:
Game Empire in Pasadena (the best by far).
Aero Hobbies in Santa Monica (very small).
GW Battle Bunker in Westminster.

If you used to play at the Block GW, the GW in Morningside Plaza is probably pretty close to you. You could also check out The Realm across from the Brea mall, but the community there is insular as hell.

Ah ok, makes sense! I've been to the Westminster Bunker when it first opened a few times. I used to live on Pico in Santa Monica for a little bit and stopped into Aero Hobbies too, very small but very nice people! I'll check out the store/group finder post, sorry I didn't look there first =(
I'll check out the Morningside Plaza one too.

Ive never had a problem with the community at the realm.I play there quite often and those guys were nothing but nice to me when i first started there. The three best options are
Game Empire, The Realm ,Battle Bunker in that order id say. GE is huge and the people are pretty nice ive never had a problem there. The realm is pretty tight on space but the owner is a cool guy and the people are nice( at least to me they are). The bunker is a GW store with all the super high pressure "YOU NEED TO BUY THIS CUZ ITS KEWL" attitude but the players there seem to range more in age and maturity from what ive seen, not that that is bad thing ,it just has some 12 year old picking up your models saying how cool they look and some 30 year olds who likes to tell you how your playing the game wrong , and they have your run of the mill normal types .
Hope that clears things up a bit

I've had a positive experience with the current manager of the Morningside Plaza store. The crowd there is pretty good for the most part.
I like the guy who runs the realm but my general experience with playing there is it is hard to get a game in on their "veteran" nights because the club that runs out of that store is very insular.
The bunker isn't too bad, just be prepared to get a lot of "no" when asking for games.
Game Empire is great, but a little far for me, I recommend checking out their monthly tournament if nothing else.

If you have any questions shoot me a PM, I live right by the old block location and would be up for getting a game in sometime.

If you are in to campaigns and are close enough to Santa Monica, check out AeroBoyz. They are a yahoo group that plays out of Aero Hobbies.
They recently started a 6th Ed campaign. Lots of games of various sizes will be in high demand.

When I lived in cali I used to hit up Game Empire occasionally. I dunno, weird "clubhouse" vibe there. Lots of tables, but regulars have a bad "punter" aspect to them and the owners and employees seemed to like HATE games workshop. When I wanted to get into WHFB after playing 40K for a couple of years, the owner (name escapes me...) spend 15 minutes trying to get me into Flames of War. Whatever..
I've never been to morningside....been to the Bunker and Central ave. Both have nice folks there who are into the hobby, but GW really is a retail/recruiting site most off and although they want to HELP you, the stores aren't really designed for kicking back and playing and eating pizza or whatever.
What I'd suggest man is to hit up Facebook and try to find a local "gaming" group to hook up with. I know there are a couple active ones in LA and the Valley that are pretty cool. They then schedule games and campaigns and you make some buddies along with not having to look for pickup games in random places.
Peace
G

I'll throw in my support for The Realm. The owner's a great guy and I haven't really found the regulars there to be insular. They play a ton of games besides 40k/WHFB, though you can play GW too without any real hassle.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I'm a good friend of Walledin. You can PM either one of us, we'd love to meet up for a game sometime.
There's a newer store down in Mission Viejo called Magic and Monsters. It's roots are Magic and Pokemon, and only recently dived into 40k. They have tables, but the terrain selection is small. I live nearby and bring my own terrain in when I play there.
Hope to hear from you!
