Hey, all.

Was looking into collecting fantasy a while back but a new baby put that on hold. Now that things have settled I'm looking into it again and Tomb Kings have caught my eye.

I've drafted this list up after reading the army book and some tactic threads and some advice would be greatly appreciated.

Meant for 2500 point "friendly" games.

Oh, I understand that Khalida may not win me many friends, but I really like the idea of her and would like to keep her, but if you think something else would be better... I'm open to suggestions.

Unfortunately whereever and whenever I play Special Characters are not allowed so have no personal experience of using her, however the ability for all archers in the unit to hit on 4+ regardless of modifiers (move and shoot and still hit 50% of the time)

Good selection BUT you can only have 1 Arcane item per Magic User, I'd drop the Scroll as your other caster has 1!

Maybe try Armour of Silvered Steel and Dragon Bane Gem and throw a Great Weapon on him to lay the hurt on something, the set up I have listed gives him a 2+ AS and a 2++ Versus Flammable attacks (and since his rags are flamable its better to protect yourself)

I'd give it a go and see if you want to play differently. I have a number of styles of TK that I like to play and each list is different style and list completely.

The real knack with Tomb Kings is to discover your own playstyle and then write a list that works well for you

I was think lore of death so thet soul leech (I think it is) uses the Tomb Prince's 9ld... not much would beat that other than another hero... unless I have misread the rules somewhere, which is likely. Plus LoD has some nice point blank damaging spells. But it was a toss up between LoD and LoL, the healing could be handy for the TG.

As for the second scroll, I shall ditch accordingly.

And work on regearing my prince and fiddling with the chariots.

Would removing the Horse Archers for large chariots be better?

I tend to use Death but using Arkhan the Black so do play differently a lot of the time, Lore of Light works very well with Lore of Nehekhara and lots of TK players swear by it so maybe worth looking into if you find that you're not pumping out the pain with Death.

Thing is if you drop the Horse archers you have lost your chaff and can/will be out deployed by a good player. For instance I have 4 Chaff drops so place them down before my army... they're worth having but they need to be learned and again people play them differently.

Right now fiddling with that, will repost my list again soon.

I like it, you have the shooting and magic to force your opponant to come and fight you and the capability to hold off and counter charge the units that do. Or against Dwarf gunlines you can advance with everything (apart form Warmachines) shooting as you move.

Occasionally swap the Prince around (into the Archers for instance) so that in combat your enemy has to fight through WS5 archers after adavancing against all that bow and ssc fire.

Plus at a later point if you wanted to change the army up adding Sphinx's (amazing) Necropolis Knights, Stalkers ect you have a solid core with the Chariots and Archers and can chop and change without needing to purchase many more models

Sounds good but I was under the impression that, because she is counted as a TK, Khalida would shift her weapon skill 6 over to the archers, aswell as BS...

But yeah, I do plan on a 2500 to 5000 point expansion in the future.

Unless she's been FAq'd I don't think she does as she lacks the My Will Be Done special rule under her entry.

5000 Points? Nice I think my Orcs and Goblins are about that without magic items

Ah, just wishful thinking on my part then

But yeah looking to eventually hit 5k after I've finished 2.5k builded painted and played with.

I'd probably go with a Knight Chariot/Sphinx heavy expansion, something to cause them problems as they try to get close to remove my archers, and maybe add some skele warrior tarpits if necessary, but I doubt they will be.

Khalida does shift her BS to the archers, that's how they hit on 4s instead of 5s. If you want to run light, try a level 4 nehekhara hierophant and a level 4 light general. Use them alongside 2 blocks of 6 necroknights. The knights charge in and get backed up by your level 4s hopefully ending up with asf, +1 attack and WS10 and I10.

Just checked the FAQ's. The archers hit on 4's thanks to her BS but she does not have the My Will Be Done entry under her special rules so cannot pass her WS onto the unit.

The Tomb King entry in her profile means that a Tomb Herald can become her Sworn Bodyguard

Ah I see, well...

I should be, fingers crossed, getting a new job yielding a substantial pay increase... so 5k seems more attainable now. I have since added on units etc to increase to a 5k list and figured I'd post it here for some feedback, seeing as how much help you've been thusfar.

Take Great Bows on the Ushabti. 3 is too small for a combat unit, they are only there to protect SSCs

Earthing Rod... best thing ever. Throw dice in your 2nd magic phase because that will be the big one for this army.

I know it's too small, but with 150points left over and nothing to put it on... I figured, why not take the cool miniatures, and for all their weaknesses... they are still awesome looking models.
