A Culexus Assassin's Animus Speculum fires an additional shot for every Psyker within 12". That could potentially be two full, 12-strong Psyker squads from an Inquisitorial Retinue... Assault 26, S5 AP1 anyone?

Good idea but it doesn't work. We had this discussion many times on the rules section. Those psykers count as a single psyker for all testing and psyker related ruling. It's the same thing for brotherhood of psykers rule for the GK's themselves. You only get one guy.

On the flip side someone tried to argue IG psyker squads but due to similar wording from psychic choir may disalow this but is unclear from rules as written. Most would assume they just count as one for the assasin as well but it's kind of up in the air at this time. Will probably have to dice off against your opponent if they disalow it as it is currently unclear.

get a Psyker Battle Squad to Weaken Resolve an enemy down to LD2 and blow them apart with a Neural Shredder. Instant Death anything.

Does that ring true for the Phenucian (sp?) Hive Archteotech thingy? (one of the mysterious terrain option in the rulebook)

This is the one where, if you move within 3" of it, it unleashes these thigns that target Psykers and "...Every psyker on the tabel suffers a S3 Ap2 hit"

So if this was unleahed on a GK army, would pretty much EVERY model take a hit?

I keep ending up looking at this entry and I really want to try it out. The 3d6 to attack/cast is pretty hilarious too.

The thing about the shooting ability is that it counts friendly psykers too.

Nope.

It's in the same boat as the Crucible of Malediction.

Each unit takes a single hit, because each unit only counts as a single psyker for all intents and purposes.

Ok, so it's not as game-killing to GK as it looks.

Worth a shot. Thanks for the thoughtful responses!

Since the psykers don't have the psyker special rule I don't think it's possible.
As said before, would be fun though.

Actually, since those Henchmen are actually called Psykers the Culexus's gun counts each one individually. It doesn't say count models with the Psyker rule.

A squad of GKs will only count as one psyker though.

But it says "all psykers in the same unit are treated as being a single psyker for the purposes of Psychic tests, etc" in the Psychic Barrage description (p51). I think that the "etc" would cover the Culexus thing.

Yeah, but the Culexus's gun doesn't distinguish between models with the Psyker rule and models who'se actual name is Psyker. So both are counted.

So, let me think this through.
Say there is a squad of 10 psykers within 12" of the assasin.

The culexus would get 12 shots. But each psyker is also a psyker, so there would be 22 shots. But since all psykers are a single psyker the assasin would get 13 shots?
That description doesn't distinguish between "models with the Psyker rule and models whose actual name is Psyker" either, so all 10 models would count as one model. So then the culexus would get 4 shots because there is one psyker that is also a psyker?

I think the non-faq'd reasoning here gets kinda fuzzy, so I wouldn't expect to be able to add more than one shot for the squad in any game. Arguing this while playing might allow the culexus to start exploding people's minds in real life.

Another point here is that if the whole squad is counted as one psyker, does wargear that effects pskyers (Stake Crossbows, Nemesis weapons, etc) affect the whole squad at once?

Yeah, thats currently the RAW.

To make it work I would House Rule it so that all Henchmen Psykers count as individual psykers(so a unit of 10 gives 10 shots) and not count them being a single psyker. Each GK squad counts as one psyker. and finally each normal psyker counts as one psyker.

Its not like its broken or anything. You really are going to alot of trouble just to give the Culexus more shots so its not really worth it.

House ruling it would be the only way to go. I'd personally go the other way though, if a bunch of grey knights only counts as one, then why should a bunch of regular humans be more?

Because its the best way to satisfy the RAW while also allowing the rule to function smoothly.

A compromise.

Not to mention the issue with Henchmen Psykers not actually having the Psyker or the BHoP rule. Technically they can't cast powers at all.

You're probably right, as 12 Psykers is 120pts, so that and a Culexus would be expensive. That said, they're BS7, so such a destructive anti-infanty unit would be great in a 750pts game

I noticed this, so do we assume their rule make them "counts as" Psykers?

Therefore, not being a real psyker, they are unaffected by such things as Stake Crossbows...
