Hey,

I recently acquired an Ork army which was basically sprayed black. I need to paint a lot of Orks as quickly as possible, so I re-sprayed them all white to start. Then it's just a matter of Payne's Grey ink and Black Ink for the clothes and VMA Green Zinc Chromate, then Wurm Green, then Wurm Green and Sulfuric Yellow 50/50 for the skin (all from P3). Metal is just metal, apply checks, done.

No single stage took more than a minute or two, making it an ideal candidate for speed painting these in big batches (60 boyz to do!).

If you have any C&C, let me know! It's not GD standard, but my aim is an objective 6 or 7 out of 10 for infantry and put more time in on the bosses and Dakkajets. Cheers all!

Pick out the detail on the face a tad, maybe just a bit of white to bring out the teeth ?

That said think you have nailed the claw and the skin tone. Think you have achived your 7.

That's a good point, I ALWAYS miss something when I think a model is finished, how obvious are the teeth?! Getting too old!

Thanks

That's a nice, high-contrast Ork skin you've got - but the lightest green highlights show brush strokes a little too much.

Yeah I know what you're saying, almost like the skin is a camo-pattern with defined shapes.

I would like to find that happy medium between speed and quality that will let me blend the tones in a bit more. I think the next Ork I paint will see some glazing action on the skin to see how long it takes me

Either that or I could bring back the shade of green a couple of notches

cheers for your feedback!

Pretty good I think for a speed painted mini. A wash of thraka green might blend the skin tones a little better. Getting ork skin to look good drives me bonkers. It's the entire reason my ork army is sitting unpainted, and unplayed except for vehicles.

Or I should re-phrase good ork skin that doesn't take 6 layers to achieve.

That looks pretty good for a speed painted Ork, how long did it take to paint all up?

Another option for speed painting is a white undercoat and then use thinned paints on the skin to create shading rather than starting with a dark colour and working up.

You could do something like white undercoat, watered down layer of scorpion green then a thraka green wash and maybe either a 2nd thraka wash or a nuln or devlan wash depending on how it turns out.

It may not give the effect you want, just a thought! The scorpion green you want watered down, but not quite as watery as a wash, so you want it to get a decent coverage on all but the highest areas where the white will come through and give a bit of a highlight.

This was done in about 15 minutes of actual painting time but was extended by mixing etc, which is OK because I'd use this technique in batches.

I do think a final glaze/wash would go a long way to eliminating brush stroke appearance. I'll see when I try the next one!

That's pretty impressive, I don't think I've ever been able to paint anything in 15 minutes.

Planning is the main thing for speed I find. Identify problem areas and paint from the deepest recess to the top and always, always paint over a white basecoat!
