Ive looked in the book a good 4 or 5 times last night while playing and could NOT find where it says to do this properly so we just winged it.
I fired a boomgun at a squad of CSM last night that covered the entire unit. Rolled for wounds, and they took their 5+ cover save. The ones that failed we just agreed he would allocate to whoever because it wasnt enough to take out the entire squad. It had a Champ and the rest were stock marines. So it seemed simple enough, but it got me curious. What if it scattered and only hit say, 4 marines. What then? Do we only allocate to those 4 marines that were hit? Does it go into the rest of the squad? What if its a champ or nob or whatever, that is one of the 4 wounded, do he take a wound? Or does it go into the squad?
Also page numbers would be nice, as again, I missed it everytime I looked

If it's direct then you take from the front, just like normal shooting.
If it's indirect you only take the models under the template, regardless of where it ends up.

Page 34 talks about barrage or "indirect fire" and the way it is removed. page 51 gives you some minor details about ordnance. Since Ordnance has no special rules regarding how wounds are processed just like blasts and templates this means they are simply modified shooting attack styles with different ways of "hitting" Barrage is the only one that changes how line of sight and damage is processed.

Just to expand on KingCrackers question.
If I have a complex unit, say Necron Warriors led by a Necron Lord with a 2+ save and they take a battle cannon hit. The Necron Lord is at the front of the unit, can he absorbe all the hits assuming he passes his saves?
