Hi All

I just wanted to ask a quick question really. Ive collected and painted models for quite a number of years now and have just started to try my hand at converting models.
Now, my question is; Will the games workshop allow you to use models that have non-GW pieces used in the conversion process?

Im in the design phase of creating some wulfen for my Space Wolves and have had a number of idea's that involve me using non-GW pieces such as arms and heads.
If I was to make these and go and play in my LGS would that be acceptable?

Many thanks

Depends on your store, the event, whether the day ends in 'y' and how many goats (or children) you have sacrificed.

No over-riding answer country to country, town to town or store to store, really.

Some managers and staff are really anal about it, others not so.

Id say check with the store and your group, i never deal with this problem since i only go to one store and the group im a part of is fine with it.

Yeah, check with the store/group. I've been going to this one store for about 15 years and at first they were really anal about using GW models and didn't even like scratch built. Then another manager came in and his thought was as long as it has some piece of GW somewhere he doesn't mind using non-GW models and scratch built models are fine too. Then most recently the new manager is really open minded and doesn't care at all and even encourages using unpainted models if that's all you have (where as the other guys always wanted models with at least 3 colours and the base painted).

Same as everyone above. My local GW used to be really anal about using non-GW parts and models. I even had a GW Regional manager kick me out of the store once for using a converted "macharius" I made from a King Tiger.

A lot of those rules have changed. We now have a manager that has been in the hobby since Rogue Trader and supports the hobby aspect more than the sale of GW products. He paticularly loves my conversion in which I used a lot of non-GW parts and scratch builds. Even using Chapterhouse stuff which I can get by just driving to their studio.

Most of the full-on GW stores have an 85% rule. 85% of the model must be GW parts. That allows for head and weapon swaps for the most part.

My FLGS uses the rule of cool primarily. Conversions and custom work are highly encouraged so long as it looks good and you can tell what it is. Your mileage may vary from store to store, group to group and especially in tournaments.
