Subject: 1000 points Iron Hands (Space Wolves). Escalating into a fluffy list.

I chose the Space Wolf Codex, as it represents the closest ruleset that an Iron Hands army can have. So far, this is what I've got worked out for 1000 pts using the Space Wolf Codex.
As the army gets bigger, I'll be adding fluffy things like Sergeants (Wolf Guard) in Terminator Armour and an Iron Father (Iron Wolf).
War Leader (Bjorn) - 270.
Plasma Cannon or Assault Cannon.
5 Scouts (Wolf Scouts) - 110.
Melta Gun, Melta Bombs.
10 Marines (Grey Hunters) - 160.
2 Plasma Guns.
10 Marines (Grey Hunters) - 155.
2 Melta Guns.
Rhino - 35.
5 Iron Devastators (Long Fangs) = 125
2 Plasma Cannons, 2 Heavy Bolters.
5 Iron Devastators (Long Fangs) = 145
2 Missile Launchers, 2 Lascannons.
It has a lot of Firepower, which Iron Hands are quite adept at and I think it can take on all comers at 1k.
Has anyone got any pointers?

Its always hard to give advice on fluffy lists as people always want to be as close to the story as they can be and, unfortunately, effectiveness takes a hit as a result. Ill give my thoughts with the fact that its a fluffy list in mind.
HQ: Gah. 1,000 pts and your running Bjorn. Normally I'd go straight for wall and start banging my head but I can see why you did it. Still, I feel you could get a Wolf Lord and keep it fluffy whilst being MUCH cheaper than Bjorn. Bjorn, even at higher point allowances, is a hit or miss character at best. He can either work against you or swing things in your favor but in most games he doesn't do much more than a venerable dreadnought does, for much cheaper mind you. A converted Wolf Lord donning terminator armor can look just as iron-born and menacing whilst actually justifying his cost more often than not.
Elites: I'm a fan of the wolf scouts, their wargear options, their rules and good stats, so I have no querie with this guys. Only thing I would do is swap out the Melta Bombs for a Plasma pistol. You can't charge the turn that you arrive in and if your opponent has a brain at all he'll move the vehicle away from you on his turn and all of a sudden doing any damage with those bombs becomes an impossibility. A Plasma Pistol, however, can be fired along side the MG and can do some serious damage to the majority of rear armor values.
Troops: I was surprised here to be honest. I was expecting las/plasbacks or lazorbacks everywhere, you've got one vehicle. In any army fielding only one vehicle is just asking for it, all the enemy fire will be focused on the Rhino and 6th edition rules seem determined to give people an easier time with destroying our beloved boxes, Necrons especially. If you ditch Bjorn I would think of giving the camping unit its own Rhino, even if its only to screen the other Rhino whilst the plasma unit remains on foot on that objective. Ideally I would've though 3 las/plas backs one with a plasma squad and two with melta squads would've made a strong platform for future expansion. It may be cheesy, but its fluffy too! I'm pretty sure there was an Iron Hand quote where a war leader wished his whole company could ride to war in razorbacks.
Heavy Support: If anyone ever tries to fault Long Fangs, they're insane. There's literally no way to fault these guys and almost any build goes. If you're pressed for points to make any changes, however, and they don't have to be the ones I've proposed, I would change those Lascannons into more Missile Launchers and go 1 PC/3 HBs on the first squad.
That's about as much as I can say without trying to get you to lay Mark of the Wulfen on your units and gear them for CC like the wolves would. Good luck!
Note: Make absolutely sure your opponent knows you're using the SW codex. If I was facing you without knowing that, I'd be going insane when your devastators tried to split their fire.

I'm actually in the middle of re working my list.
I'm not happy with the wolf scouts. Twice I've used them in a proxy game and twice they've done nothing.
Going to drop them in favour of an Iron Priest and a Rhino for the Plasma Squad.
In regards to Bjorn, he has been an absolute beast at 1k. The BS6 PC has been a surgical scalpel to my opponents. He finds tough to earn his points back, but he can take a beating and dish out some serious firepower towards 2+ SV units and great against hordes and MEQ.
The Iron Priest with Bjorn will just keep him going.

Ok, I see what you mean about Lasplas Backs.
Iron Hands do use a lot of them. I'll add some in at higher points games.
Not sure if I should have one of the Rhino squads with 2 Flamers or 2 Meltas.
I definitely want to keep at least two large squads of grunts for camping and have at least 2 five man squads in Las Plas at 1500 - 2000.
I'm noticing now though that I want to use the C:SM ruleset more than the SW one, but I might just include allies instead to bulk the list out a bit more.

Iron priest with servitors with plasma guns or put them in a land raider. I guess giving them cyber wolves is not good for you.
If you went for wolf guard leaders for the grey hunters and give the squads some of the upgrade, each upgrade could be represented by a bionic part on a model.
Then you could the CML termy and a normal termy to lead some long fangs. A nonCML termy would be a reasonable leader for long fangs given that the enemy has to shoot through the termy armour first.
As to your list, an ADL with quadgun would make the list all right.

I'm going to be putting the Iron Priest with Bjorn. Makes sense to add some more heavy weapons to the squad.
Already ahead of you with the CML Terminators in LF Squads. They will enter the army at higher point games.
It seems that the IH use less tanks and more transports. Definitely going to have to invest in Razorbacks.
Might order some LasPlas turrets tonight, but first, I have to rearrange my army list.
I'm writing up some background on a somewhat disgraced IH Clan Company, which I'll put up later. Basically, the Clan are disgraced due to their lack of action during the HH. The majority of Clan Korhaal have never set foot on their home world since the aftermath of the HH and live and maintain the only surviving Battle Barge the IH have, while mining for ore in space.
