What are people's thoughts on doing Raven Guard as "counts as" BA with appropriate restrictions?

This way you can get assault marines as troops, storm ravens for transport/air cover, and the usual speeders, drop pods, etc. to fit theRaven Guard fluff/theme?

By adopting some self-imposed restrictions (no BA-specific choices like death co., always defaulting to rulebook psychic powers so as to not take BA-specific powers, no BA special characters, etc.) on what you take it seems you could use the BA codex to make a RG army that looks and plays just like their fluff describes them.

"Red thirst" on assault squads cold just as easily represent hardened/grizzled marines individually chosen for their combat ferocity by the force's commander, etc.

If everything was modelled/painted as proper Raven Guard and self-imposed restrctions followed to limit/omit BA-only units/wargear would people be bothered by this?

Thoughts?

I would personally see that as a perfect template to make Raven Guard.

It'd be really cool to also model them all with beaky helmets and as many lightning claws as possible.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I wouldn't be bothered by it no, and I certainly wouldn't refuse to play it, but Raven Guard can be adequately represented by the basic Marine book, they are a Codex chapter afterall.

About the only reason would be to make your assault marines scoring, but sitting assault marines on an objective seems a bit of a waste.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I agree with the above post

every chapter is a codex chapter until they get fleshed out (cept the wolves)

OT:
I see no issue with this, imp armour books give you a special character that makes assault marines troops, so this is essentially the same thing, but i would stay away from some things.

Death company
DC dreads
normal dreads (too slow lol)
Baal preds
Liby dreads
Basically anything that is "too" blood angels

Not the stormraven (this i think would fit the RG)

Also, if you want to, you could ally the BA/RG with codex SM to use Shrike as well as take tactical squads as troops for the codex SM so they can camp objectives so that your assault marines are free to do what they want.

I am all for this, I personally went from SM-> SM raven guard -> BA 'counts as' Raven Guard in there prior codex.

For what he raven guard are all about (speed, Assault troops and scouts) BA just does it better.

I ran my Bloody Raven Guard as

- Librarian
- 2 RAS squads
- 1-2 Scout squads
- Attack bikes
- Droppod Sternguard, Tacticals or dreads

Very much a Raven Guard mindset.

I would not mind playing them and the army would definately look nice but I myself would still build them with the C:SM book. But that's just me now isn't it...

Of course it makes sense. When there are a bunch of BDSM clowns doing Olympic gymnast routines throughout your unit, while also cutting off heads, you tend to get a bit distracted.

A character in Imperial Armor 8 makes assault marines troops in the Code Space Marines.

Which is fine except, of course, that the assault squad in C:BA is enormously superior to the assault squad in C:SM.

I use the C:BA codex for Raven Guard. The "Raven Lance" psychic power (a mighty lance which leaves a trail of ghostly black feathers as it flies) is perfectly fluffy, imo.

I would love to see that, as long as I can tell what is what I have no problem.
