As nobody likes Nids, would a fluffy reasoning convince players/TOs to allow Allirs of Convenience?

Ie. Hybrid IG, Infectex Orks?

I'd be okay with Nids taking Infected Guards as allies as long as the allied detachment was 'fluffy', (ie very little mech) and there was some creative modelling done on them to make them look infected.

They should at least be able to ally with Tyranids, so they could share the same FOC as everyone else.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I wasnt very upset about no allies, as I figured Id just use the Doubled FoC, but sadly my local scene seems terrified of it, and so the new standard is "1999+1"

Found this over on WAU... some interesting points, mainly in favour of this concept.

Discuss.

` Tyranids just eat meaty things, including meaty things that happen to be infected with Tyranid genes. The best bet for a Tyranid ally would be Necrons, because they are not meaty things. I could see Necrons moving alongside a Tyranid advance, picking up interesting artifacts and gunning down the planets inhabitants to make way for a new necron world once the Tyranids have cleaned the place up.

My FLGS says that tyranid players can take IG allies if they have at least one unit of genestealers in their army.

There's going to be lots of Nid Vendettas then.

Hopefully they know that not only is 1999+1 2000, but that it doesn't matter how many points are actually used if the limit is 2000. I could use 1891 points out of a 2000 point limit and still use double FOC because the limit is 2k points, though i'd be playing with a handicap.

I think allies with guard would be great (to an extent) as there used to be genestealer cults etc with genestealer patriarchs etc. I think if you used it as a reason to use Vendettas or even tanks IMO would be pushing it. The idea behind the cults was that they were basically not an organised military faction and were more of a rabble that worshipped Tyranids (although they may have been controlled by them, its been a few years since I read about them ) Regular guardsmen, veterans, even Ogryn "counts as" models would be pretty cool, but airplanes, tanks and walkers... not so much. Maybe a single basic tank (reg leman russ, chimera, hellhound) with the orcs looted vehicle rule would be believable but no more than one. Of course this is just my thoughts.

Just being able to ally with ourselves to get the FOC that everyone else gets would be awesome. Our Elite slot is notoriously crammed an one extra would be great.

Even Regular IG units would be kinda pushing it in my Opinion because having read a lot of fiction behind Tyranid guard encounters, its not the guard that get infected... its the civilian population on the planet being invaded, which means any units that they do get would probably be along the lines of Conscripts..... But that wouldn't be fun would it?

Things that suck:

1. We can't ally other nids to increase force organization slots, where every other faction gets allies.

2. 1999+1 similarly denies nid players this.

3. No Guard allies of similar denies players the oppertunity to take Genestealer Cults, which would have been fun.

The thing about Stealer Cults is that there's no fluff precedent for them fighting alongside Nids other than Genestealers. They'd probably just be eaten as soon as the Tyranids arrived.

I would agree with Stealer Cults as long it was mainly infantry , The Stealers wouldn't have Acess to PDF issue Weaponary ( With Exception in the commisar Cain books where the Governer was actually a Stealer) so they would be restricted to mainly infantry , but i would think that it should be allowd other wise

I'm thinking something different entirely.

What if a space marine chapter repelled a hive fleet invasion, and took the abandoned remaining tyranids captive.
Deprived of the hive mind, they were very weak willed which allowed the librarians of the chapter to invade their minds and replace the hive mind with their own. (nids can't tell the difference)

Nids have no support organs. Their cells are hyperefficient and last for a good fight, but they're not self-sustainable. They can't eat or metabolize. Even rippers simply collect the biomass and reduce it to bio-organic gloop - they don't gain any nutrients from it.

If space marines can genetically modify them selves, they can keep simple non-metabolizing creatures alive.

Space marines keeping Tyranids players is;
A) A laughable idea (no offense), they'd eradicate them pronto
B) Unusable as no Tyranid player would present his army as SM+enslaved Tyranids.

Yeah, it's a pretty big shafting that everyone but nids get expanded FOCs, I see no reason why nids shouldn't get the extra little FOC as long as they fill the requirements. I don't think nids should be able to ally with anyone else though, that's just fluff murder.

Consdering that nids run amok on battlefields among Titans and Baneblades, fly through intergalactic space and can recycle/adapt themselves within a day . . . in their birthday suits with zero tech, they are the most biologically advanced race. The Imperium has cool metal tech but the limits of their gene tech is tall dudes with som extra organs and an emperor hooked up to a life support machine. Sounds like their biotech industry isn't more than a century ahead of ours and certainly nothing coming within the ballpark of nid biotech.

I could see battle brothers with guard but thats it. (have a special rule where everything in the guard codex is -1BS and +1WS to reduce abuse and keep it fluffy)
The old genestealer cult codex had russ and other tanks in it along with all the guardsmen stuff. Makes sense to have them here.

Other than that, no allies. Nids despise necrons and avoid them at all costs. Everything else is food. GK are food, SW are food, chaos are food.

Chrisrawr, Hormies can metabolize (used to be all gants, but then the abomination of the tervigon happened). They use it to gain resources to form eggs. For everything else, you are correct.

FALSE. They infliltrate the planet structures to, aka PDF, political circles and so on.

The IG codex also represents the PDF, hence imo why the hell not ?

and plus one on that, that would quite the badass pet.

Just so you know nids crons is the least viable of any of the alliances. Anyone with the necron codex wil know that necrons have identified the nods as the biggest threat for them going back into flesh bodies, which is their ultimate goal. Also crons don't need any tech as they allready have the most advanced tech out there (they are capable of extraction them selves from the laws of physics)
