Hey guys just had a quick question, one of my friends asked me to spray his figures with some satin varnish from vallejo but he has already flocked his bases with the GW grasses and I wanted to know how it would react to getting sprayed with a varnish. Really all I want to know is whether or not I can be lazy and just spray them with the varnish, base and all or if I have to cover up the grass before I start spraying.

Any help would be appreciated.

Normally not a problem. Make sure they haven't accumulated dust/pet hair since they were finished though. Varnish can settle on things which are hard to see and make them very noticeable.

Other than that - some people actually use a varnish coat as a bit of added insurance to keep static grass in place. Doesn't normally change the look of it at all - just provides it with a bit more stick.

I would cover the flock. The flock will get matted down and clumpy and just not look right if it gets spayed with varnish

Have also had no problem using Testors Dullcote over both flock and static grass.

I've also never had a problem using any type of dullcote over flock, static grass, nor fake water/ice

Spray away. I always flock my models first, then seal. Never had a single problem in 16+ years.
