As said in the title, the last time I had models on a gaming table was back in 3e, so I'm pretty out of my element with all the talk of flyers and other things dominating the battlefield. I honestly didn't expect to make a return to 40k, but I found my models the other day and admit I think I may have the bug again. I used to play generic marines, but I'm thinking about scrubbing them down, repainting them, buying a few new toys and starting a little BA army. I've come up with two separate lists, both for 2000 points. One is pretty objectively better than the other, but would also unfortunately be more expensive dollar-wise in getting new models.

The less expensive cost-wise is:

Librarian w/ blood lance & something else
reclusiarch w/ termie armor

chaplain
assault terminators x5, 4 w/ th & ss
sangpriest w/ termie armor
land raider crusader

death company x9 w/ 2 powerfists
land raider

tactical squad x10, missile launcher and plasma gun
tactical squad x10, lascannon and plasma gun
scout squad x5, snipersx4 & missile launcher

devastator squad x5, missle launcherx3 & plasma cannon

That comes out to pretty much 2000. Everything in termie armor goes in the crusader, the dc and other chaplain go in the regular land raider. It's basically full steam ahead, while everything else stays back and shoots. Yes, I know this list is very vulnerable to melta and invests more than half its points in the two raiders and their cargo. The question is if, for a much lower dollar cost, it's worth it. I'm also open to switching the land raiders in the list out for storm ravens, still carrying the terminators and dc.

The other list is a bit better I think, but unfortunately would mean pretty much revamping my whole army. It goes like:

Librarian w/ termie armor and ss

sangpriest w/ jump pack
sangpriest w/ termie armor
chaplain w/ termie armor
assault terminators x5, 4 w/ th & ss
land raider crusader

assault marines x10, melta x2 & th
assault marines x5 w/ plasma gun in las razorback
assault marines x5 w/ plasma gun in las razorback

baal predator w/ asscan, heavy bolter sponsons & storm bolter

That should total out to 1630. Everything in termie armor, except for the libby, goes in the crusader. The baal speeds in front of it, offering an av13 fire shield for the land raider. The two razorback assault squads are sped to objectives to camp on, and the lasbacks then provide some heavy firepower. The libby goes in the large assault squad, along with the sangpriest w/ jump pack. The libby is positioned in the front of the squad so he can sponge shots up with his 2+/3++ plus FnP. And he would benefit from LoS. My questions for this list are, is the baal best for its job? Could the screening of the land raider not be done by say, two land speeders for cheaper? And what about the general survivability of the land raider? Viable tactic? Also, thoughts on the libby? He would need to use Wings to keep up with the assault squad, which is kind of limiting and maybe not the most reliable. I do love the idea of him being a small mobile fortress, however. And lastly, what to do with the remaining points? I'm thinking either another 10 man assault squad or a unit of sangguard, either would have its own jumppack sangpriest. That or investing in some vindicators/ dakka preds/ something for long range booms, which this army kind of lacks.

I know this is a super long post with tons of questions, but as I said I'm rusty so any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
