Hey guys,

I remember not getting the Storm eagle the first time around (even though I was really... REALLY tempted with how sexy it looks) because it was flier cost for only skimmer rules But now with 6th edition, the thing has 4 hull-points, a flier and a hover, and an assault vehicle with transport that can carry two 5 man squads of terminators. For 225 points, it seems kinda legit, especially if you pay the +60 points for the lascannons, that thing turns beastly!

What do you guys think?

Nothing in its rules states that you can carry more than 1 squad unfortunately (unless an update came out that I'm not aware of). So it would have to be a single 10man termie squad.
The potential to have about 700pts of your army either move 12" (hover) from reserve, get shot by interceptor, then again by regular shooting to leave your Termies stranded midfield, OR move 36" (zoom) then potentially taken down by interceptor and kill a bunch of termies is not very appealing.
I would consider the Caestus ram as even interceptors will have a tough time getting through AV13 and you get a 5++ front armour save without having to evade, drop the big boys then zoom around laying large melta pie-plates.
Either way they're gonna be uber fire-magnets and cost a lot of points. The IG vendettas (or valkyries, I forget), while not as tough, carry as much if not more firepower for a third of the cost...
I'm just not sold on the point/efficiency of SM flyer-transports, it would be nice to see some battle reports of people who have actually used them.

My 2 cents, hope it helps you make a decision.

P.S. once I have some $$ I'll be all over the Spartan tank though! ;b

I got a Storm Eagle a few days ago actually and I've been thinking about these sorts of things as well. I think that they're best kept as cheap as you can - consider a multimelta or typhoon missile launcher for anti-air and then use POTMS to fire the Vengeance Launchers and devastate infantry. Storm Eagles work best as transports rather than gunships, so keep that in mind. You'll have to deal with enemy anti-tank before they Hover or you'll be screwed. Like Phoenix said, a Caestus is probably a better investment but much cheesier.

Haha but I am building my Kuban army to be all elite soldiers (essentially deathwing terminators lol), So I thought the Storm eagle would be the most awesome thing for em. However, after looking at the rules for the Caestus ram... its not too shabby. I can carry my Deathwing Squad in two of those babies, and have them teleport in... not to shabby indeed.

Can't wait to add em to http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/452075.page

not too expensive either
