Soo i was thinking the eldar and necrons are hated enemies yet the c'tan shards to me just seem like they kinda copied how khaine was split into a bunch of pieces?

Sorta different...

Khaine: Destroyed when running from Slannesh into the real world, his/its form was instantly shattered into pieces.

C'tan Shards: merciless forces of nature which betrayed the Necrontyr and were utterly obliterated in a revenge ploy by those necrons and they're huuuge firepower post war in heaven. Buuut you can't really destroy a c'tan, so they pumped them full of guass so hard they began to break apart and those weaker shards were trapped.

Agreed. I personally believe the changes in their new Codex were needed to make them a more characterful and customisable force; diversifying their race and really providing the player with opportunities for customisation and personalisation.
It really helps the Necrons overall as a collectible force IMHO.

It wasn't perfectly done, I would've preferred they moved away from the Tomb Kings side and made them more grimdark, but I feel for the large part it was a good and required change.
Then again, the Tyranids get away with a relative lack of customisation or character, but that could arguably only serve to make the oldcrons less original... Is the galaxy large enough for multiple genocidal races?

I also love the idea of the Necrons uprising and defeating gods. I probably would've preferred it had they not gone down the shards route, but I love the idea of gods being destroyed like that, particularly in a universe where gods are so powerful.

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

As has already been observed, the C'tan shards are the least of the off-brand Terminators' originality problems.

Heh... hate on the Eldar much? Khaine was defeated by Slaanesh and enslaved. Khorne, being the Chaos god of war, claimed Khaine for himself. The battle between the two is what shattered Khaine's body. Not him "running away".

I choose you! Void Dragon!

Void Dragon used Power of the Omnissia.

Matt Ward used Retcon. It was super effective! Void Dragon fainted.

What's this? Matt Ward is evolving!

Congratulations! Matt Ward has evolved into GW President! Matt Ward has learned Necronbrofist.

I thought the void dragon was still part of the background, it's just a loose shard now.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

There are reasons why I ignore the fluff and made my own... I'll agree that the fluff needed tweaking but Ward did a terrible job.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

I love the new necron fluff and the c'tan shards being in the present timeline makes more sense. Before the retcon the full nightbringer and deceiver were as powerful as greater daemons. they were starved but still they were whole. So the retcon actually makes the c;tans more powerful with the emperor only defeating a shard of the void dragon and all. And now the Necrons have even more ancient high tech artifacts and weapons of galactic destruction, making them more mysterious, ancient. and deadly.
