I have heard some rumors (for what little they are worth) that GW is planning an stepping up it’s release rate in 6th edition and will be adding a number of expansions. Something I would like to see would be a number of Campaign codices. I know that GW is not going to advance the story line but I think it would be cool if they came up with some fleshed out historical campaigns that take place within the existing fluff.

I would be something like the Imperial Armour or the 3rd edition Eye of Terror Codex. But with less of a focus on new units (in fact I
would not mind if it did not have any) and more on background fluff, lots of unique missions that can be linked into a branching campaign and a few new rule sets for some minor things like new mysterious terrain and fortification unique to the campaign. So more like the campaign book from Space Hulk then the Imperial Armour books.

Here are some conflicts that I thought might be fun if they made a new campaign book:

1st War of Armageddon
2nd War of Armageddon
3rd War of Armageddon
The Sabbat Crusade
The Damocles Crusade
The First Tyrannic War (Behemoth)
The Second Tyrannic War (Kraken)
The 13th Black Crusade
The Gothic War
The Baddab War

I am sure there are others too. I think best if they focused on completed campaigns and let ongoing wars like the the Thrid Tyrannic War (Leviathan) open ended.

Actually, that's quite a good idea.

Which of course means that the chances of GW making use of it are slim to none, particularly since their business model insists that rules are published only to sell miniatures.

They could then sell limited run SCs and units like the Tanith for a release

Currently debating whether to study for my exams or paint some Deathwing

Actually that's not a bad idea at all, though I think GW would do well wait until they've reduced the failure rate of Finecrap to an acceptable level before they tried it.

Frankly, if they're serious about all this 'narrative-driven gaming' business, rather than it being (as I'm apt to view it right now) window-dressing to disguise their inability to write balanced rules, then every codex should contain a playable campaign.

Have you read any of the Imperial Armour campaign books? I ask because they're almost exactly what you're describing.
FYI, IA1 and IA2 were purely lists of units and their history. Imperial Armour books from 3 onwards are all campaign books. (IA:Apoc books are rules compilations)

Forge World have already done it (IA9 & 10) and it's really quite good.
