This is my first draft:

Chaplain Xavier - using rules for a Chaplain with a power fist

Troops
Tactical Squad - 9 marines, sergeant with chainsword and bolt pistol, 1 flamer

Scout Squad - 4 scouts, sergeant, all have camo-cloaks and sniper rifles

Fast Attack
Biker Squad
Sergeant with plasma pistol and melta bombs, 2 bikers, 1 melta
-note: I converted them to ride fantasy Warhammer cold ones

This comes out to 495 pts

if you want to run a vulcan list first thing COOL! i love salamanders. Seconed Vulcan lays out what you shuld bring just fallow what he makes bettor so flamers melta and TH terms. I personaly run a drop pod list with my Salamanders so i can get the melta dread's and tac squats in fast and hard i also like to bring scouts and a teliportation homer for my terminators. Just stick with the fluff with these guys.... Melta, flamers and thunderhammers

First off, Welcome!
Sallies excel at mid and close range. As such they need to get there. Really, every Salamander list should include Vulkan IMHO. My Salamander list is still in its infancy but here's what I have to build from. Oh never buy a rhino. Always a razorback.

Vulkan
3 tac squads but really only 2
Devestators (bought for the MM to put in tacs)
2 razorbacks/rhinos
1 LR
10 assault termies. Really are count as.
2 Dreds
1 talon

Your list above has no melta or flamer or hammers? Or most importantly no Vulkan.
Are you just playing a vanilla list but like the salamander back story?

Death Corp... Meh. Tau would synergize well methinks.

The reason I don't have alot of Flamers and meltas is because of the limitations on Tactical squads. I like special weapons and I don't like my chances with the snap shot. I do like the idea of a melta/hvy flamer drop dread. Thanks for the help

I would buy the stormtalon in a heartbeat if it had melta options, but alas it isnt possible. Are the stormtalons effective or trash?

this is the list i ran (- the defense line) i ran before 6th so my disclaimer is that i have not play tested it. i will say that i think its solid and will wok and its what i plan to run when i get tired of playing orks(NEVER!!!) good hunting
