I recently traded my dwarf army for a WoC one and I haven't played a game with them yet but I want to start small and build up from there so this is my first 1k list.....

Heroes -

Festus The Leechlord - 185pts

Core -

17 Chaos Warriors (Halberds, Banner (Banner of Swiftness), Musician, Mark of Khorne) - 335pts *Festus Unit*

5 Chaos Warhounds (Scaly Skin) - 35pts

Special -

5 Chaos Knights (Banner (Banner of Rage), Musician, Mark of Nurgle) - 295pts

Rare -

Chaos Warshrine (Mark of Tzeentch) - 150pts

Total - 1,000pts

My first thought: mark the warriors nurgle and swap their banner of swiftness for banner of rage (giving Festus another attak and keeping your deathstar moving and killing and getting protection from BS-based fire that the knights won't need); then mark the knights khorne and don't give them a magic banner (in fact I'd drop their banner entirely unless it's already modeled). This should save you some points, about enough to buy another pack of warhounds (dropping the mark on the shrine will get you there for sure).

My second thought: get a champ for those warriors, because otherwise Festus is going to auto-challenge and get himself killed as soon as possible

Ya, Festus got myself killed in the first round of close combat when I tested my original list...

I would say give your Knights blasted standard, and give them MoT,kind of depends on the opposition though, MoN works wonders against low BS units like goblins etc etc. I think Knights are killy as is-not really needing frenzy from the banner of rage or MoK, which also gives your opponent room for baiting them.
I love Festus, usually run him with 20+ warriors MoN of course full command with both frenzy banner and swiftness banner- oh i usually pop in a exalted hero BsB there aswell, so that poor festus dont get killed too early like previous poster stated

I don't have the book with me at the moment but the warshrine only buffs units /characters with eye of the gods ? And in your list you only have Festus with eotg ? Or does the whole unit benefit from it ? If the former is correct I would recommend you to drop it and go for some marauders or maybe some more hounds?
