I have seen people use a variety of products to strip paint off of models. The most common of which as been Simple Green. This works wonders on the old pewter models but it just doesn't seem to cut it with the plastic models. Granted it will strip the top layer but it doesn't seem to like to strip the primer. I can scrape it off after soaking for long periods of time but this becomes quite tedious and time consuming.

Suggestions?

Gathering the Informations.

More often than not, you'll actually remove the "layer" of primer, but it will actually stain the plastic permanently.

If you can provide a photographic example, it'd be helpful.

LA's totally awesome. Clears everything, even primer and it was like 2 bucks.

Definately agree about LA's totally awesome. $3 at DollarTree or Dollar General. I'm currently using it to strip almost 6,000 points of Orks and it works wonders. SIt your models in a 6/1 Ratio, water to LA for about 24 hours, then with a toothbrush scrub off the paint. The longer you let it sit the better.

Not sure if you have a product called Dettol (original brown liguid) over there, i've just started to use this, soak it for 24 hours then the paint just falls off with running it under water, maybe be a little tooth brush scrubing for stubbon bits.

The plastic did have some staining from the primer (red in my case) but no loss of detail on plastic just the models smell like a hospital for a few days as dettol is an aniseptic fluid.

When you can't see the drunk guy at a party, you should look for the nearest mirror.

I didnt have any issues with using it on plastic. Just finished using it on a dozen Chaos terminators. Weakens super glue too, which can be a plus.

I found it at Dollartree near here. You can get it online as well.

Another vote here for LA Awesome. There's an article here on Dakka that I can't seem to locate right now, that highly touts the product as well.

A friend of mine rages over isopropyle-alcohol (IPA). Not tried it myself but told one dip then brush and the paint comes off, plastic, resin and metal all fine!

My comments are my own, and mine own alone. If you have any complaints, please report to Mr Spanky who will take them down for you.....

i use Castrol Super Clean in my ultrasonic cleaner and it can and does easily removed varnish, paint and primer (including car primer) on metals, plastics and resins with no issues (even if you leave stuff in it for 6 months or over a year). you can buy this at walmart for $15 for a 5 gallon jug.
