Ive recently started collecting some necron allies for my CSM and am a bit stuck on how to paint them. Ive been contemplating a khornate colour scheme but im unsure how to actually apply the paint scheme, would i want to do a brass allover with red highlights or a red allover with brass highlights? The first models ill be painting are some gauss immortals and then my night/doom scythe.
Necrons are no battlebrothers for CSM and only desperate allies to Daemons. Showing that Necron allies are not part of Chaos forces, as supported by background. Also be aware that painting army X red and black and adding spikes and tentacles has been done to death, esp. on armies with no ties to Chaos. But maybe I am biased.
I personally think that Daemons or Imperial Guard (Traitor guardsmen) allied with CSM would make more sense background wise, but it is your hobby, and your money, so if you want to do chaotic necrons as allies then go ahead!
As for painting them, if you are doing the Khornate, then I would do red armour and then the mechanical joints in between a brassy colour.
For modelling them, I think that living-looking tentacles would not really work, but you could make mechanical tentacles by rolling out the greenstuff into a long thin sausage, leave it to dry and then cut it into segments, drill a hole in the middle of ech segment and then thread the segment onto a paperclip or wire. Below is a video about what I mean:
Also if you are doing khornate style Necrons you must not forget the skulls everywhere! I think that trophy racks could work as well.
Hope this helps and post up some pics when you have finished 'em

I would do them as base black, paint a bright green or teal, then drybrush a few shades of bone overtop. so that they looked like skelletons with blowing chests if i was going to put them into a choas army. Fluff aside, if they were khorny you'd expect them to be more close combat oriented.
Or, you could just paint them like Necrons and make up some story as to why they are friends. The allies matrix is completely fluffy. Why would Necrons that look down on anything non-Necron paint themselves up to match a sect of Chaos Warp worshipers? Necrons hate the warp and anything related to it. Have we forgotten the War in Heaven?

pretty much my thoughts. the Necrons are warp null entities. it doesn't exist to them. The eldar made the webway to get AROUND the necrons because they can't use it. so Chaos Necrons is about as good as saying Tau-Ork's. Oh sure you can model them, but either they're tau, or they're orks. not both. see what i'm gettign at here?
NOW, if you want them to LOOK like a khorne army should you ever descide to use that abortion of an allies listing, then I would say go with Red 'Crons with gold accents. A scheme thats been done (and well I might add) but accomplishes both goals.
down to the brass tax of it:
you paid for the mini's. paint them, spike them, mode them, whatever you wanna do. they're yours. enjoy them. Just don't be surprised when you ask what people think of them. do them up for YOU.
