I'm trying to build a rounded army for use in a few casual tournaments and friendly games. I have it narrowed down to these two selections but all suggestions are welcome! The general strategy is the Terminator squad acting as my hammer absorbing fire in the land raider crusader while moving down the centre, accompanied by the vindicator. The Landspeeder skirmish and distract the enemy from my Thunderfire cannons/Razorbacks. The thunderfire cannons sit deep in the terrain protected by the combat squads with missile launchers while the razorbacks move my powerfist/melta squads into position further up the table. Sternguard come on in a drop pod for some tank busting in the second turn usually acting as a suicide squad. Scout would act as a flanking squad but is competing with the extra firepower that would come in very useful considering the mech heavy lists I often encounter. The techmarines can also come in handy fixing tanks when the cannons are destroyed or if the situation arises.

The major differences being a scout squad in place of multimeltas on the Speeders and Lascannons on the Razorbacks. What are peoples opinions on the best distribution of wargear, taking into account the Vulkan rules and keeping within the 2000 point limit? Thanks for any input!

The Scout Squad can infiltrate up further than the rest of the army giving forward fire support as well as being a unit that can move forward relatively quickly to move and grab an objective that's close to them. Also, from my understanding sniper rifles became better than they were in 6th Ed. rules with the ability th choose the specific target on a to hit roll of 6 (heard/read somewhere on another forum, so don't quote me on that). Having the Land Speeders armed with the Heavy Bolter along with the Typhoon Missile Launcher means there are two really hard hitting long-range fire support for use against infantry and with the Typhoon Missile Launcher with two Krak Missile shots per Landspeeder there is good chance of knocking most vehicle resistance aside, even Monstrous Creatures, while being able to quickly zoom around the table to harass other units and objectives. The Razorbacks with Twin-Linked Heavy Bolters provide a good set of fire against infantry units, thus being able to harass held objectives - along with the Land Speeders - and then taking the objectives with the Tactical Combat Squads.

Sometimes a platform to vent is all you need No one has any criticism on the internet so I take it I win the internet and my list is fine =]

I just have to say I don't agree with "forward fire support" as descriptive of a combat squad of scouts. The only thing you can count on sniper scouts to do is hold an objective for cheap, I would suggest an objective further from the enemy rather than closer as they do have 36" range. Put them in a little wood somewhere that's been bolstered by one of your techmarines.

Typhoon+HB speeders are a tried and tested choice. I don't think you can do the frag+HB trick in 6th though, correct me if I'm wrong guys. If I were you I'd drop them for attack bikes with MM. You've already got vulkan so they're TL, plus you get almost twice as many for the points. They can also hide behind your razorbacks unlike speeders.

What does "upgraded sergeant" mean?

for a vulkan list you want drop pods with multi melta dreadnaughts and iron clad dreadnaughts. ditch the land raider just deepstrike them.

try this

vulkan
master of the forge with conversion beamer

5 thunder hammer termies
scouts snipers
tactical marines melta multi melta combi melta fist in a pod
tactical marines flamer plasma cannon combi flamer fist with razor

iron clad in pod x2
dread in podx2

dont know how many points that is but

I assume the sergeant thing is just an artifact of his army list software.

You don't need to do any tricks to fire both weapons on fast skimmers these days, they can all fire 2 on the move. I like the typhoon/HB load out. It lets you project firepower over a huge area, something vulcan lists often lack with the melta/flamer focus.

There are a few things I'd do differently on the list, but nothing major.

I think the sternguard sarge would get more use out of melta bombs then the scouts. Also, with the TL how many meltas do you need to get the job done? I'd either drop 2-3 to save points (possibly adding another marine) or swap them for flamers (either combis- or a HF)
I like a mix of claws and hammers. Even with Vulcan TL, I'd put 2 in there
Extra armor is a waste these days (IMHO) I'd drop it and use the points to get the scouts a ML or HB.
I find it's too easy to blow 5 men off an objective. I like putting a full 10 man squad in a rhino to move forward to grab objectives, not just 5 in a razor.

You want a Dev squad with 4 multi meltas with a transport. You can get out and shoot. Even though you need 6's there twin linked! lol

I would go for the scouts. Then try getting an ADL with quadgun, as at the moment flyers will love you.

Then I would increase the number of sternguard to 10 in the drop pod, as they can then combat squad and have fun.

I would be tempted by a normal landraider as it sits well with lasbacks as a slow shooty unit, I know you want to run in and smash things.

A Razorback can only take 6 guys. Why don't you stick a 10 man tac squad with a flamer, multi-melta, and a sergeant with a powerfist and combi-flamer in a drop pod? It works pretty well for me. Take a redeemer with 6 TH/SS Termies and Vulkan.

ano the razor only takes 6 thats why you combat squad stick 4 guys with the plasma cannon in a building with the master of the forge and the razor takes the flamer combi flamer and vulkan. it works really well against anything even termies can only make so many saves. 3 twin linked templates before an assault is awesome.
