Is there a page or thread where you list how to use various bbcode features on this forum? Because the way this forum does lists and tables is really non-standard.

Normally, for example, this would work for list tags.

However, on this forum, that isn't the case, as it shows the following:
  • [*]Item 1
    [*]Item 2
    [*]Item 3

  • Similarly, standard table code for bbcode usually goes osmething like this:

This would result in a three by three table. However, this doesn't work on this forum:

    [table][tr][td]Category A[/td][td]Category B[/td][td]Category C[/td][/tr]
    [tr][td]Item A1[/td][td]Item B1[/td][td]Item C1[/td][/tr]
    [tr][td]Item A2[/td][td]Item B2[/td][td]Item C2[/td][/tr][/table]

I've looked several times over the couple years I've been here and I've not found any tutorials on how to do either one in Dakka. I know they're supposed to be possible, but.... I don't *get* how to do them through experimentation. Most of the bbcode on dakka works just fine-- bold, italics, underline, strikethrough (which isn't mentioned but it does exist, like tables), quotes, spoilers, code, image links, URL links, yhoutube links, and username links all function in a logical and consistent manner. But lists and tables... well, I need help on.

I always have trouble with lsit tags in Dakka's dialect of BBCode.

Still, try formatting news submissions for theminiaturespage sometime.

I wouldn't want to do that.

    I'm sane.

    Or so I tell myself.

Our BBcode is moreorless just the basic text formatting stuff. Tables were supported, but got abused, so I removed them. Lists are broken compared to normal BB implementations due to laziness of coding on my part and their infrequency of use. You can just use HTML for a list to do it the normal way if you need it.

    • like
    • this

      • and nested
      • like
      • this

    • voila

And no whitespace for a denser list:
    • like
    • this
      • and nested
      • like
      • this
    • voila

Quote this to see what I did. There is no summary page for BB code as it is pretty much (aside from strikethrough) just what you see on the post edit page above the text box.

Does the HTML also work for tables?

    Tables are completely blocked.

Tables are naturally supported in the wiki (the article system), so you can always create an article or use your user article page to create a table and then link to it in a forum post if you need.

Certainly not perfect, but gives you some options.

Was mostly asking because I wanted to create a table for stats for my character in the play by post game.

Could always make the table elsewhere, screen-grab it and upload it via Photobucket.

When you say tables were abused, what do you mean by that? Some kind of malicious code exploits, or users using them in code-intended but rules-breaking ways? Just curious, I have absolutely zero need for tables in here.

Also, italics strikethrough is my all time favorite tag when used appropriately.

Badly formed tables and not correcting them. The table verification code is weak so it was quite easy for people to mess up, and in turn mess up the formatting of the rest of the page as a result.
