I know that 6th has only been out a short time, but it seems to me that people can't let 5th go. They are using the rules, but are not taking full advantage of the new rules. I look through the army lists here and elsewhere and outside of people adding lots of flyers to certain lists the majority of the ones I have read haven't changed much.
One thing I have really grown to like are blast templates. With the change on vehicle damage with the template I am suprised more people aren't trying to use them.

It'll take until one or two big tourneys are in the books and someone smacked everyone else slowed because they exploited the new rules that others were too afraid or shy to explore. Once that happens, then the new meta will begin to become more defined. For me? I'm trying to abuse rapid fire and overwatch. The amount of ranged firepower I place on my opponents right now is absolutely silly and my current main opponent has no real counter to it as of yet.

There are a lot of things in 6th that needs to be FAQed right now. I don't feel like 6th is quite ready yet, which makes me wary of taking it on at full force. The people I play with basically use 6th with a lot of things house-ruled things coming from 5th.

I've been trying out different units and how they work now in 6th and had different builds every single time. In the first games I kept doing some things just like in 5th. Sergeants in the front ain't a good idea anymore...

I shall rule the world someday utilizing my cuteness. And I already have one minion to help me do it!

Of course it makes sense. When there are a bunch of BDSM clowns doing Olympic gymnast routines throughout your unit, while also cutting off heads, you tend to get a bit distracted.

I can relate to this. It is difficult to escape the 5eproblem mentality at times.
There are and always will be unclear rules...this is GW afterall.
6e is fun...it plays well overall..although some if the new rules are really clunky (look out sir, mixed saves, etc)
Most people wanted a tweaked 5e..that is not what we got

The biggest difference is really wound allocation. That, more than anything in 6th, changed the game. It made tactics go from "where on the board should my unit be" all the way down to "how should my unit end its movement, in terms of who goes where."
And that's really cool. I can live with some clunky rules for that. It's the unclear ones that reallygrate me.

If anything I've found my basic build to be a bit more effective. As I largely use thousand sons I've become more mobile, my ap3 is more effective due to the cover changes. I'll admit I'm still a bit stuck in the 5th mentality but I'm throwing in a vindicator when i can get one and I've picked up my terminators again. I can't say much more until the new codex is out though as the book is likely to change things quite a bit.

If by "taking full advantage" you mean spamming fortifications and fliers, you're right, at least for myself.
I'm trying to establish a baseline of sorts, getting used to what happened to my armies, period, before I start changing things. I've started adding fliers, and I think I'm about ready to consider fortifications, at least for IG.
You jump in to new stuff too quickly, and you'll never get an empirical measurement of how well things work together.
