So, after cooking up my own little version of modded rules for a skirmish 40k, and then downloading the infinity ruleset, I've realised I had basically written down a clone of Infinity... Seeing as the figurines are simply gorgeous, and the ruleset seems more balanced and yet more intricate than anything I could acheive alone, I'm thinking it's time to shelf my Marines (of course, it was marines, why'd you ask ? ) and take a plunge. Plus I'm a huge fan of Ghost in the Shell and Gunnm, so the aesthetics are really appealing.

So even before I track down a store that carries this stuff, I wanted to ask a few questions, as far as factions and stuff. First, let's admit it, I'm pretty much in love with all the factions. They are all top quality. If anyone here works with Corvus Belli, go ahead, pat yourself on the back, you deserve it more than any other wargaming company I've seen. And I've been known to be a huge Privateer Press fanboy , so this is not said lightly. Given enough money, I'd start just about every factions. But let's go with one, just so that I don't starve myself to death while staring at beautiful figurines...

Merovingians. I get the feeling that they are the ''Mobility'' faction of Ariadna, and somewhat geared toward higher numbers of troops than other forces. A Métros force could have over 20 models at 200 points. A few Loups-Garous, for the viral rifle. 1-2 moblots? I kinda prefer the Zouaves, as far as figurines. Later on, when I'm expanding to 250-300, Mirage team-5 because, hey, blond chicks with werewolf rambo rock my boat.

The thing I'm noticing is the lack of hacking, doctors, T.A.G.s, vehicules... basically everything that makes other factions futuristics. I'm cool with that, but I'm wondering if it's going to be a problem. I see that remotes are a good solution against dropped troops, but I don't have access to any. With so many troops, maybe doctors aren't going to be necessary. The lack of T.A.Gs bothers me, just because, well, Appleseed... I imagine the dog-warriors are supposed to replace that? They seemed more like ultra-mobile CC monsters, tho...

So, basically, I'm asking for anyone who'se had experience with or against Frenchmen In SPAAAAAAAAACE, for any form of advice. I could switch to a Nomad force, or a Pan-Oceania Order forces, if the lack of tech really hurts Merovingians, or takes away sides of the game that are enjoyable... Like I said, given enough time, I could collect just about every factions (and still pay less than I would to start some other game system)

If you are interested, we could have a demo game ! =P
I'll give a more detailed post tomorow when I'll be bored at work so for now :

Don't worry about the lack of things !
With the Mero. Sect. you do have access to a mercenary hacker (alguacil hacker from the Nomad faction) (Not that useful but might be more useful with the incoming campaign book)
And taking a Dozer Engineer let's you take a Traktor Mul, which is our Ariadnian unhackable remote =D Not as good as the remotes the other factions get, but it's cheaper too !
And they do have doctor, the courageous 112 ! You get an awesome firefighter wielding an axe and a shotgun ! The perfect tools to repel a zombie invasion =D
I too would love a TAG but hey, it does make us unique
And we might eventually get an old rusty TAG =P
As for the Dog-Warrior, if you go Mero, you can't use these.
But you forgot to mention access to Chasseurs ! Which are really really great versatile units =D

For buying these, I usually go with Shae-Konnit. He has great prices and it's quite fast =D
I ordered some Infinity items at Le Valet D'Coeur and it took 2 months to get the order, and they had received only 1/3 of the order =(
I know L'Abyss can also order some but their prices were even higher than the prices on GW's website so...I know you pay more to get a gaming area but as I'm slowly building my own board...I'd rather save and invest in my own terrain pieces

Tomorow I'll let you know more about the Merovingiens =)

Awesome! I hadn't noticed you were from Mt! Hell this alleviates a few of my fears, it's hard enough to get people to play the more popular wargames here, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to convince my gaming group (mostly Mordheim) of starting something new.

And that's crappy for Le Valet d'Coeur. Some sellers there are somewhat pushy with 40k, but it's still my primary spot to purchase. I was hoping they would carry a few items, like they did with PP.

Just to make sure, Mirage Team-5 is a Merovingian Lt, right?

What do you play?

I too play the french, we do have access to AD troops in the form of our Paras, and they do an excellent job of cleaning out the back-field, with a 32pt HMG option! Co-ordiante the order and your foolish opponent suddenly finds himself outflanked with no where to go!

The Loup Garou link team is painful, thanks to Viral rifles, glue guns and flash grenades (can take a sniper rifle too) all with ARM 2 and X-Visors so they can sit back a little and blast away with full link team bonuses (always take 5!)

Chasseurs are our area denial tools; want to funnel the enemy into one area - mine the place so they are forced to guess where the Chassuer is and buy you some time to move your troops up into position. To help again AD troops in your back yard you can mine your own deployment zone. They also have access to the glue gun for a nasty ARO should you be in an unfavourable position, but I prefer to have at least 2 minelayers before I bring in the glue fun gun.

Zouaves - I too love the models, but while they can inflitrate (mech deployment) I have found the sapper variants better off in your deployment zone, where they are in their sweet spot (+3) range more so than a spitfire/combi-rifle. the -6 the sapper foxhole gives them helps here too.

Margot (Mirage 5) can not be the Lt, we have many options though - Metros, Moblots, Zouaves, Paras so its not a problem (poss exception: Paras - if the Lt starts off the board, you will be at loss of Lt)

Thanks Kogan! I'd like to start low, on the 100-150 point scale, and so Loup-Garous seems prohibitively expensive at first.

God I love the Métro's figurines. There's more character in each of those minis than I've seen in entire ranges of other games...

Oh and I'm loving the look of those Traktor Mul. Do I need some camouflage troops to mark the targets?

You'll need forward observers, they mark the targets for you and its based on WIP. The Paras have WIP 14! they are usually the solid choice for marking, but the Chassuers can also do the job admirably.

the Loups' can appear expensive, but for what you pay you get a lot of goodies, a Link team of 4 comes in at 80pts ( 2 Viral, 2 BS + ADHL) which gives you the extra burst and +3 to WIP for discovering sneaky inflitrators. As they are a link team they become very order efficietnt, they all move for 1 order.

Don't forget you can still shoot if the target isn't marked ! But doing so means your remote is much more vulnerable.

Kogan did a good summary for a couple units but I'll still do mine (which is 90% theory =P)

Métro : -Indeed, these look incredible =) IMO, Ariadna has the best looking line troopers ever =P
-You can compare them to a 40k guardsman. Very cheap but can't shoot as well as anyone else =P So what do they have for these fragile little guys that can barely hit the broad side of a barn ? They are incredibly cheap and have access to a 0.5 SCW HMG ! (Not sure if someone else can say so)
-They also have cheap infiltrating options =)
-Their Lieutenant option is pretty cheap and can potentially be easy to hide
-They also come with Multiterrain, which can be useful, depending on the board you play on.
Oh and they are linkable =)

Para-commando : - These guys are quite cheap for being AD troopers with Mimetism.
- Being AD : Parachutist, you need to careful plan where you want em on the board, but it can be golden =)
- Cheap HMG is awesome
- WIP 14 makes for great forward observer
- Really not much that goes against them at this price

Loup-Garou : - They look awesome !
- And their Viral rifles can mess up pretty much anyone =)
- Watch out, they are squishy. Just like pretty much every Ariadnan trooper =P
- They have an Adhesive Launcher load out but taking it means no viral weapon on that model.
- X-visor helps longer range firefight

Zouaves : - They all cost SWC =( But they pack quite a punch ! Aside from the grenade launcher, the sniper or the HMG loadouts, they all carry a nice DEP and an assault pistol. Making them fearsome in close combat.
-Their sapper loadout is very nice and helps improve their survivability.
-They have a terrible PH stat
-Mechanised Deployement allows for extra deployement options =)

Moblot : -People says they usually underperform...I'll have to wait before I can comment on that.
-They seem pricy but have really nice stats and lots of options.

Chasseur: - Multipurpose goody !
-Quite cheap for what they can do.
-Camo + mines + flamethrower gives them great to deny areas, exactly like Kogan said.

Mirage-5: No infos on these too so I can't comment on them. But I don't doubt the damage a DogWarrior can go when he goes on rampage on the enemy flank =P

pure theory, Moblots might work in a link team, but I don't have enough models or points to test it out. Every time I've taken one as an Lt, it gets spotted very quickly and taken out. ARM 3 doesn't help as much as you'd hope.

Just clarification...The "unhackable" remote isn't entirely true. The Traktor Mul is hackable, but Ariadna needs to field a Dozer to field one.
I emailed CB to confirm, since the Traktor Mul is a "REM" it is hackable. The shots from the Traktor Mul are not though.

Yup, you are right to specify this.
A little oversight

So our remotes can shot less and weaker shots, but they can't be countered with defensive hacking.

Okay, so how about this for a starter of 150pts?

-112 Emergency services
- 6x Métros, all riffles, 1 Lt
-1 Zouave, HMG
-1 Zouave, Forward observer
-1 Dozer
- AT Traktor Mule.

You've got 11 models =P
Maximum model count per group is 10.
So you either need as close to 10 or a couple more so you get can something like 8/8

Here's what how I would make this

Of course, what ever you and your opponent agree to play.

Although the maximum no. of models in a combat group is 10, you can have up to 4 combat groups. So you can make more teams to fit more models in.

From what I've seen, the most popular formats are : 150-200-250-300.
Under 150 : Very small skirmishes so better if you just want to learn. (Can be hard for some factions, C. Army comes to my mind =P)
150-200 seems fine and not too big.
250 seems to be the sweet spot where you really have to make choices when you build your list.
300 seems to be the format when you can field all your big toys.
Over 300 might make longer games as you might need more than 1-2 combat groups.
But it is totally doable, take a look at this one =P http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/461172.page

These are all from what I perceived from reading so take it with a grain a salt =)

Well, I've made my first order today at Le Valet d'coeur, I don't know if he's changed supplier since your last order, but he told me it'd be in in a week.

There's also Chez Geek who told me that they would start carrying if we could get a 4 peeps group to play regularly.

I also bought HS, and god is it a gorgeous book.

One of my club's players won an autographed Infinity rulebook last weekend (he's been playing about 9 months) and he's been reading it, too.

I admit, I bought a box or two of minis first, but the rulebooks WERE the next purchases I made.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Ah damn. I wanted to get started on painting.

Chez Geek is on St-Denis, 1663, pretty much right outside the Berri-UQAM metro. It's small, but they plan on expanding real soon which is why he mentionned he could start carrying if we brought in people. He said that was what had happened with Heroclix.

What did you order ? =)
What I think might be a problem with Chez Geek is the amount of terrain needed for Infinity. Unless he already has a lot of terrain (and not 40k terrain), people will need to bring lot of terrain and try a new game at the same time.
Any idea how it works to play over there ? Tables and you can play on these if you are a customer or you pay an amount to play on the tables ?

the 112, 3x métros, the HMG Zouave, and the Chasseur.
I might ditch the Dozer/Traktor, the Traktor's expansive for 2 models of which I only want to use one. That'd open up some space for a Loup-Garou Linked team.

And I now I want to make a Scarface/PanO T.A.G. Merc company...

I haven't seen any terrain at Chez Geek, but since they play WM/H a lot, they should have some. I suspect it's not gonna be the type we need. And I think we'd have to set a regular's night, which is annoying. Would still be better than being bothered by the Valet d'Coeur clerks gibbering ''fooooooooorty-kaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy'' as if it was zombies screaming for brains, tho.

Well, considering my other project was a Biker Marine force ^^...

10,50 for single regular figs, 11,50 for the zouave with the sandbag base (and that's a nice base btw) and 17,50 for the pack of two regular figs.

I mean, compare that to the 25$ for the single marine with heavy flamer (which I bought only for the HF and the backpack) I bought at the same time...

Also, the seller, Israel, was pretty keen on getting people with 2 forces to play a demo game. He said for better effect to arrange something on a saturday or a sunday, when the 40k regulars could take a peak and maybe be swayed. He mentionned he could get some specific Infinity friendly terrain if there was a following. I showed him War Mill's production and he seemed to really like, so he might not even need the huge following to start that.

They will also soon restart a Necromunda league, and allow for proxy, which could be another good way of swaying people by showing off the cool CB figs

Oh and the bootilicious Chasseur chick too!

I'm definitely looking at expanding my Meros already (cause let's face it, I have issues when it comes to spending money on cool minis) the Airborne troopers look great and have some fun ways to mess with people. I'm hoping my Moblot does good, a little voice in my head tells me never to field any kind of list without at least one person who can make things go boom. Throw in Mirage 5 and my squadron should be able to hold it's own... stupid every other fething force in the game getting knightmare frames XD. Ah well that's what I get for choosing the faction that features kilted men running around with broadswords.

We'll have to swap paint tips Kovink.

I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn

Finished assembling the Métros dude, the Zouave and the Chasseur.

Now I was wondering, I have a 40k flamer hanging around, is proxying pretty much the rule in Infinity? It seems to be, since there's not an overabundance of spare parts. Should I bother with switching the Chasseur's adhesive launcher with the flamer?
