The disputed way is to multiply 2(9+3) before dividing into 48, giving you 48/24 which is incorrect.
To get 2 the equation would have to be:
48/1(2[9+3])
48/1(2*12)
48/1(24)
48/24

The original equation has only one set of parenthesis, and therefore follows standard procedure of parenthesis first, then left to right, doing any multiplication or division before any addition or subtraction.
