Hey out there to you Nemesors and Phaerons, hoping you can give me a little list advice.
I know this isn't going to be a standard Necron list but I really like the idea of the Veil of Darkness and the visual it gives, and I wanted to theme a list around that and the idea that the Necrons can just appear out of nowhere and reappear somewhere else, ghostlike. There was a movie scene (can't recall the film) where it looked like inky blackness, as if poured into water, just descended onto the ground and some baddies rose up out of it - that's the kind of idea I'm getting when I think of this Necron Veil list.
So here's the list:
HQ – Nemesor Zandrekh (orb) - 185
~HQ – Varguard Obyron (Ghostwalk Mantle)- 160
HQ – Overlord w/ scythe, MSS, weave, orb - 160
Court 1 – Despairtek w/ veil of darkness and shroud - 70
Court 1 – Destructek w/ lance and pulse - 55
Court 2 – Despairtek w/ veil of darkness and shroud - 70
Court 2 – Lord w/ scythe, weave, orb - 90
TR – 15 Necron Warriors
TR – 10 Immortals
TR – 8 Warriors in Ghost Ark
EL – 5 Deathmarks
FA – 4 Wraiths w/ 1 whip coil
HS – Monolith
HS – Annihilation Barge
HS – Annihilation Barge
Total points 1999
The idea, though I don't have everyone placed in squads yet (maybe you can help me out there), is that the big Necron Warrior phalanx, the Immortals, and the Deathmarks all get a character with an orb and a character with a Veil or Ghostwalk Mantle. Not sure who would go best where yet. I do know that the Deathmarks will get a Veil of Darkness Despairtek so that their 2+ to wound Hunters rule extends to the Despairtek's template weapon. So perhaps Zandrekh goes with the big Warrior squad and Obyron goes with the Immortals.
The Monolith i have made a fun conversion for (lights!) and I like the idea of the portal it has. If the main squads lose their Veil or Mantle, I can reposition them some with the Monolith.
The Wraiths are for counter-attack.
Annihilation Barges seem cheap and shooty, and I like the look of them as big floating gun platforms.
The Lance-tek goes with the 8 warriors in the Ghost Ark, which will try to be near the big block or Warriors as well to reinforce any losses with Repair rolls. If necessary I can remove that first turn of Night Fight or force one on my opponent.
Thoughts? Am I just mental to consider this could work? Seems fun and themed to me!
