Subject: Bethesda making STALKER 2?

Bethesda are rumoured to have aquired the rights to make a STALKER game (but not actually own them). Bethsda has responded with a "no comment" which always looks suspicous.
If true I'm not sure how I feel about it, if it stays true to the source material (and stays obviously 'Russian', even if the original was made by Ukranians) then it could be excellent. A fallout style game would hold no interest for me though.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

I see no way for this to be successful.
Bethesda did Fallout, and that's all I see them making STALKER into.
I'll probably still buy it, but I will loathe and not use features like Fast Travel that are bound to be put it to appeal to a larger audience.

If they make a customizable main character and revamp the game system so it actually works I will buy it. Otherwise, no. The original stalker series was a horrible, buggy, unbalanced mess and I regret getting it despite the fact that I got the whole series for 11 USD on Steam's summer sale. I could have spent that ten bucks on something competently designed, like one of the Indy Game Bundles.

Whereas I find it one of the best FPS franchises that I have played. Undoubtably buggy on release, Clear Sky was all but unplayable, it was patched to a fairly decent standard and there are mods which massively expand the game.

I didn't play it on release. I played it a few weeks ago. It was still hideously buggy (a ridiculous crash-fest), and stupidly balanced-- I've emptied an entire pistol magazine in to a random, unarmored thug's chest (the first enemy that one meets, in fact, aside from random mutant dogs on the countryside) and head, watching the blood spray from his body, and then all that happened was me getting one-shotted afterwards.
I still need to try Pripyat. Hopefully that one is at least playable.

Melissia, if your new to the series just play Call of Pripyat, its the best one (and the most stable). ...Though still pretty hard on those used games like COD. If you get in a firefight with a half dozen guys expect to be screwed unless your smart, patient, and/or can run fast. The series does also punish you (not directly in game much, but via story), for not looking out for your pals. Let X character die and they could have a subtle effect on their faction, that leads to bigger things. =P
Anyhow, if Bethesda treats the game as a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, rather than just another game to fling the Eldar Scrolls engine onto I'm sure it'll be fine. They may only be producers, not developers mind. I rather like when they only act as producers on games, but offer up their software to the developers. Fallout: New Vegas was a great game, but so was Fallout 3. Fallout 3 was what could be done with the software, but without the soul really/ If we can have the original developers working on the game, but youknow....not out of a shed like they were, I wouldn't expect the game not to be a bestseller.
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was developed by Bethesda right? That was pretty different from their established titles and suitable dark.

Hoping they keep it as dark and creepy. Basicaly hoping something along the lines of the tone of the other STALKERs, with an improved engine. Hell STALKER is one of the few games it can be a bright clear ingame day with the sun shining, and your still looking over your shoulder in fear.

I'm all for hard games-- hell I played Metro on the hardest difficulty, for example-- but there's a difference between a game being honestly hard and one simply being buggy as all hell.
As I said, I'm gonna try pripyat next, especially since people are saying it's the least buggy of the three games.

According to my sources the news that Bethesda purchased the Stalker rights is false. I will continue to keep a look out and if I hear anything new, you will all be the first to know!

So Bethesda did not buy out STALKER. That's good news.
Aside from having an open world full of bugs, Bethesda games and STALKER games are nothing alike.
Bethesda games are full of unchanging environments, worthless fetch-quests, and horse armor DLC. STALKER is dynamic, purposeful, and cinematic.

Thats like me saying pokemon games and square-enix games are nothing alike...your comparing a game series to a company that makes a broad scope of games.
EDIT: bloody words the wrong way round

Nevermind. Turns out the rumors about stalker being alive are false. This makes me sad. And I found that Stalker games work fine, actually. SoC is certainly more stable then FO3 in my opening. For example, I never received a BSoD on SoC.

Never had a problem with a STALKER game regarding "working"
Modding is easy as pie.
The games are incredibly involving and fun.
There are no games like them.

On release Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear SKy (especially the latter) were buggy but they were patched to a good standard quite quickly; Call of Prypiat was stable on release. I did a SoC run a few months ago, guess how many bugs I found? 0
You have clearly decided that you don't like the games for whatever reason but that certainly doesn't mean that they are bad games.

Not necessarily, i like both, and i mean fallout since 1, and even i'll say, tone wise i prefer stalker every time. Fallouts sillyness is fine and all, but thhats all it can really be, silly.
