So, with the changes to rapid fire (namely, being able to shoot full range on the move), and now having overwatch, Chenkov seems more viable of a choice. So, I guess the questions are (hopefully from people with experience rather than just theory)...

-is he worth it (assuming conscripts)?
-what are the conscript proportions (how many units, around what size) you feel are the best?

(note, either way, I'll most likely be running IG and vanilla Marines, still not sure who's going to be main and who's allies.)

Thanks!

Conscripts got a little better, so conscripts with SitNW obviously also got a little better. Everything is just so expensive, though, which is the main problem with this strategy. That and you've got to paint up a LOT of guardsmen...

In the end, though, they're still just screener units and something to hold onto objectives that aren't seriously contested. The problem remains that you can just bring naked infantry platoons that do the same job better for not all that much more expensive.

As for loadout, I'd only bother with a single conscript squad, and it would be either 20 or 30 large. It's big enough for anything you could want to do. 50-sized squads are uselessly too huge.

Yeah, 90 points is a lot to get the conscripts regenerating-- you get essentially a commissar/officer hybrid in that cost, but it seems like you'll probably never get more than 1 additional wave, which means that it's only going to even net you much of a profit if your conscript unit is more 25+...

Well, I may eventually try it, but that's a good point on regular IG probably being better for the cost.

Conscripts are pretty dreadful. Maybe with some ICs to boost them to be fearless, but then if you chenkov them then you lose the IC.
Then they arrive at the wrong time and the wrong place.

Just take tonnes of guardsmen and be happy if they do not die, rather than being unhappy that you can't kill them off.

One thing I want to try is combining a Conscript squad with SiTNW with allied Sisters of Battle, and keeping a few of them in Kyrinov's fearless bubble.

A big mob of fearless, respawning dudes with rapid fire weapons seems pretty solid to me. You can use em to screen your more important stuff, tarpit enemy units. You can even remove them at the begining of your turn to leave the units they were tarpitting sitting out in the open with their balls in the wind. Then you just walk them back onto the field and touch something with the improved move and shoot 24 inches.

You definitely shouldn't put an IC in them, and you can try to get a similar effect with Chenkov's stubborn bubble and Aura of Dicipline from a Lord Commissar, but then you need to keep the White Shields in 2 bubbles, and Chenkov is actually pretty easy to pick out- since command squads aren't known for their durability.

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

Well their rapid fire weapons are not that scary. A blob unit of guardsmen can be scary as they have higher BS and will have some cool weapons mixed in.

At the very least with ld5 you need more than stubborn. So fearless or aura will be needed.

I've used conscripts to represent the planets PDF in a campaign we ran at my FLGS. It was fun, and fluffy. They died in droves though, which is what a PDF does, Die to a man.

I could see them being useful if you have a home base objective. Start of the game just charge them forward, screening units and just being annoying. Turn 4, if they're still alive SITNW and have them retake the home base objective. Sit and guard till end of game.

Granted, I don't see it being competitive, just a fun way to use them.
