Simple question. Should an player have the choice to make Storm Trooopers a troop choice, or would it be too OP/not worth it?

For those unaware:

You can take 5-10 troopers, a squad of ten is 165 base.

Storm Trooper stats for reference WS: 3 BS: 4 S: 3 T: 3 W: 1 I: 3 A: 1 Ld: 7 Sv.: 4+

Their base weapon:

Hot-Shot Lasgun (18" S: 3 AP: 3 Rapidfire)

Abilities:

They can take two special weapons (ie melta, flamer, plasma, etc.),they can deepstrike, and they can take Chimera

They also have the ability to chose 1 of three doctrines

Reconnaissance: Gives them Scouts & Move through cover

Airborne Assault: Can reroll deepstrike results

Behind Enemy Lines: Give them Infiltrate, and their first shoots count as pinning

I think they should, and they should also lower their price IMHO.

Sure, but remove the special operations. Exactly like in 4th edition except their guns are generally better.

Not on their own, maybe with a case of HQ X unlocks option Y as troops. As far as small "elite" troops go, the IG already has Vets.

- 1250 points
Empire of the Blazing Sun (Combined Theaters)- 1950 points
FUBAR Starship Troopers- Would you like to know more?

Schrott

Maybe they could become a troop choice with a special HQ unit?

like a Storm Trooper Style commander who allows for storm troopers to become troop choices. he would be powerful

but very expensive to balence it out. You would be able to bring powerful troops in. but you would have reletivly few of them.

Regiment: 91st Schrott Experimental Regiment
Regiment Planet: Schrott
Specialization: Salvaged, Heavily Modified, and/or Experimental Mechanized Units.
"SIR! Are you sure this will work!?"
"I HAVE NO IDEA, PULL THE TRIGGER!!!" 91st comms chatter.

Storm troopers are about 165 points for 10 guys, a plain tactical Space Marine squad of ten guys is 170. They are already very expensive, and in a guard list 160 points on 10 guys is huge. With that said I could see a Storm Trooper special character going for 100-150 points depending on what he is/gets, and like I said for Guard that is a lot.

a storm trooper command would be fine i think. just 4 storm troopers and a Storm trooper commander, allows 1 storm trooper unit to be a troop choice. or the CCS could do it too.

I: 3
A: 3
Ld: 10
SV: 4+

Wargear: Mastercrafted hotshot laspistol with intergrated vox system, powersword, carapace armor, frag grenades

The vox system allows 5601 to send his order 6'' further, 12'' if the squad has a vox caster of their own (the leadership roll cannot be re-rolled in this case)

Special rules: Veteran company, 2 new orders ''They are already dead'' and ''Grenadiers, form rank! Fire at will!'', Senior Officer, Iron Discipline, Die Hards, Hardened Fighters (the last 3 rules are standard for any Krieg soldider find them here: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/k/kreig.pdf)

Veteran company: Grenadiers maybe taken as troops, the veterans of the Company Command squad have the same gear as a standard Grenadiers

''They are already dead'': The unit who received this order may fire at units locked in melee, shots that miss are resolved agaisnt friendly troops, all normal saves apply.

''Grenadiers, form rank! Fire at will!'': This works the same as FRFSRF but for Grenadiers, it affects the following weapons: Hotshot lasgun/laspistol, grenade launcher and heavy stubber.

Quick comparison to Creed: Can give 2 orders to Creed 4, can potentially reach 24'' just as Creed, his single hotshot laspistol is MC (count as twin linked, right? or did memory failed again), however he gets a power sword and +1 WS, also custom orders. No tactical genius sheninagans, but there's the FoC sheninagans.

Plop, replace Grenadiers with Stormtroopers, reduce WS 1 by and remove the Krieg stuff and your're golden. Might want to make him more pricey as well, I did not, because Krieg Grenadiers can't deepstrike or use special operations (and yet they're 18 PPM, Forgeworld, you so crazy)

in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun

Really like the idea. Add Krak Grenades as well. They are supposed to be well kitted out. Why FRFSRF for Heavy Stubbers though?

As for FRFSRF for grenader launchers and heavy stubbers, well I heard they were bad weapons choicem so I figured giving them this advantage over flamers and melta gun (Grenadiers can't have plasma guns) and heavy flamers would balance things out.
