The forming of the 609th came about almost by mistake. It only happened because of Commissar Yarrick after a very hard fought war on the world Golgotha after 5 Regiments of Cadian Shock troopers were almost annihilated by the forces under the command of Ghazghkull Thraka. The war on Golgotha was protested against fiercely by many Imperial Commanders who saw the assault on the Ork world as suicidal and they would be right but still under the leadership of the command staff of the 217th Cadian regiment the assault began a force of 30 regiments had been amassed for taking Golgotha from the orks. The vanguard strike was led by Commissar Yarrick and consisted of 5 Regiments these were the 217th Cadian, the 343rd Cadian, 455th Cadian, 467th Cadian and the 577th Cadian and during the very first battle of the campaign the 343rd suffered huge losses which meant that the regiment had to be disbanded and spread through the other four to make up for losses in the other regiments. then during the fighting for the Ishwar Mountains, The Cadians and Yarrick met disaster they were hemmed in on both sides by Ork forces equal in number to their own and had nowhere to go so had to stay and fight. Yarrick inspired his troops as he made sure they held the line and they did so for 16 hours before there was only a company sized force left which was made up of the remnants of the 5 regiments that initially landed and it was at this point yarrick requested an evacuation for his spent force and under his orders the remainder of his strike force were joined together under a new banner of the 609th Cadian regiment and Yarrick is believed to have commented ' They fought with the courage and zeal a man would expect from a God' and due to this they earned the name Odin's Sons as they were believed to have been blessed by Odin himself an ancient God of War whether this is fact or fiction remains to be known but all that can be known for sure is that the 609th Cadian still fight with the same courage and zeal they showed on Golgotha and to this day they also take in men from other shattered regiments as they believe in the power of veteran guardsmen and they will fight until the end no matter what. The Regiment is also credited with never losing a single man due to execution for cowardice. This is due to the fact that they know they can wrestle victory from the jaws of defeat with well aimed las-fire.
