Jon "Yakface" Regul joins Craig and Russ in the third chair. Jon runs the massive miniature gaming community DakkaDakka.com, has been playing WH40k for more years than he cares to remember, and is responsible for the INAT FAQ: The official independant Warhammer 40,000 FAQ used at major tournaments like Adepticon.

With this much 40k knowledge in one chair, we just had to devote this entire Megasode to Warhammer 40,000. First we cover 40k through the years. How has is changed from edition to edition. What did it used to be like, and where is it now?

Then we jump into 6th edition with both feet. What's new, what's changed, and how will it impact the wide variety of gamers who love this game.

All that and our other not-too-horrible segments including:
- Total Fan Girl
- Do You Ever Notice
- & More

Hey guys, just finished up the episode tonight. Another great listen.

Thoughts:

-Definitely cool to put a voice to Yakface.
-I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this, but... there was this weird reversal between Craig and Russ. I thought Craig, being the guy who generally leans toward 40k, would be the one talking up a storm during this episode, and I though Russ, being the guy who generally leans away from 40k, would be a bit more subdued. Now, there may have been various enviromental factors and other quantum-foam-esque and chaos theory induced variables the listener may not have been aware of, but I heard the exact opposite, as Russ was all over the new rules.
-By the end of the episode, I felt as though I was on an episode of Peewee's Playhouse, as everytime the word 'cinema' was said, I was yelling 'Aaaaaauuuuuuuurrrrgh!'

I was so stoked to have my haiku read first. There I was driving down the interstate in my dump truck with the podcast on my sound system, just a grinning my face off. Thanks.

I also found the episode very informative and fun. I don't think I will be getting into 40K, still, but it sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun. I will continue to enjoy looking at the models and scenery.

Wow, has it really been almost a hundred episodes since Jon was last on the show?!

Great breakdown of the history of 40k and 6th edition. I'll keep my "well, actually's" to myself, don't want to be that guy.

As for 6th ed, I'm cautiously optimistic. I've only played one game so far, on the day the edition came out so I don't want to use that experience to judge the entire edition, but I'm not sold on the wound allocation (I hate having to worry about where I place my models), and I don't know if "cinematic action" is a good trade off for fiddly mechanics.

Oh and about the easter egg at the end of the show... really Russ? REALLY?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Jon was a fantastic third chair guest...100 episodes is definitely too infrequent from our point of view!!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Mmm... quantum-foam!

I can see it now: "Quantum Battlefoam: Protecting your miniatures in both time and space!"

Anyway, another great show guys. First of all, congratulations to the Haiku contest winners on their well-deserved victory! As a fairly new 40k player (I started with 5th Ed), I really appreciated the brief history lesson you guys gave on the previous editions of the game. I had picked up bits and pieces of that story before, but this is the first time I've heard it all in one place. You know, Russ, I think there might be a good Dakka article in there if you or Yakface were interested in writing it . The review was also pretty good, even though it was a bit long. I have yet to play a game of 6th (in fact, I haven't gotten any 40k in since Adepticon ), but I'm really excited about trying it from what I've been hearing. I really like the idea of adding in allies, fliers, and fortifications; in a lot of ways, it feels like 6th ed is rolling a number of the 40k expansions (like Planetstrike and Apocalypse) into the core game.

As for the Easter egg....well, it wasn't too horrible, but it's no "12 Things of Gaming" .

Another fine episode for the inter-tubes!

While the pod-waves have been abuzz with reviews of 6th edition WH40K, I really think that this episode's is amongst the best that I have listened to. I really think that having Yakface there elevated the conversation due to his unique view of the rules, being a part of the INAT board and such. Also, having a run-down of the previous editions gave a really good lens by which to view 6th.

Congratulations to the Leviathans and Balance of Powers winners. All the haikus were definitely not too horrible. One might even go so far as to say entertaining.

Every now and then, I go through the Rogue Trader book. We always played it on the squad level. It's as clunky as all get out, but I'd still play it. There's a horde of Slaan, can your squats fight them off? Good times, indeed!

Really fantastic. I havent played 40k since 4th edition and it was great to review the past of the game.

The last few episodes have been really excellent, guys. Great work.

Really excited for Gencon next week. Its gonna be a ton of Descent 2, some Pathfinder, and a Combat Commander mini tournament. I'll make sure to say hi.
.
One more thought.
I was painting up my 2nd ed Descent minis and I was thinking about how much more I know about gaming and good games since I started enjoying your podcast. Sounds corny but you guys make me a better gamer. While I would probably be going to Gencon without your podcast, I'm sure I get more out of it because of the work you have done. THANKS!

Keep up the good work!

Great show. So that song at the end... that's kind of how that 'call me, maybe' song goes? Thank goodness I've stayed away from it haha. Loved the lyrics you used, though.

Great show as usual. I'm thinking about giving 6th ed a shot since it would give me an excuse to work on more than one army at a time AND still be able to use them in a game via allies.

I'm also excited that a buddy of mine got Descent 2nd ed. Can't wait to play!

Just finished the episode today. Good stuff.

As a non-40K player (thus far), I have to say I very much enjoyed both the history of 40K and the review of 6th Ed.

As a WHFB player (noob), I have to say now you got me jonesin' for a similar segment documenting the history of Fantasy Battles.

So, again, good sirs, another good episode in the can.
