Subject: Vassal of Menoth magic ability check required???

Hi All
Just ran into a situation on my final game last night during the Journeyman league and would like all your expert input on this.
The question is regarding the use of the Vassal of Menoth's abilities, please correct me if I am wrong in anyway. In the pass I have always used the Vassal as of example 1 below:
Example 1:
1. I indicate the Warjack I am going to use Ancillary Attack (★Action) on.
2. The targeted Warjack makes a normal attack out of turn.
During league play my opponent indicated I may have to do a magic ability check (Magic ability of the Vassal is 7), so I've been playing through out that game using example 2. I'd thought that the magic ability of 7 only applied on offensive attack spells eg. Arcane Bolt (★Attack), unless indicated on the stat card that a skill/magic check is required as [7].
Example 2:
1. I indicate the Warjack that I will use Ancillary Attack (★Action) on.
2. I did a 2D6 roll to see if I score a 7 or lower to pass the magic skill check.
3. I rolled a 8 I fail there for ending the Vassal of Menoth's activation.
Would someone be kind enough to clarify this.
Thx in advance
Loon

Page 83 in Prime and 85 in Primal under the heading "Magical Ability" as per the index.
What part are you having difficulty with? It reads crystal clear to me so I don't understand where the issue even might possibly be. The paragraph even closes with the statement: "Casting a Magic Ability spell does not require a skill check."

Thanks dripwelquest
That is exactly what I wanted, I was told that I was required to do a magical skill check during play and didn't want to make a fuss over it. I'd thought "oh hang on" maybe I've made a mistake or I might have misread something. I take it, that example 1 is the correct method of using the ability.

Correct. Giving out a free out of activation attack is why the Vassal is one of the best (arguably probably the best, though I'm a huge Nicia fan) in faction solos for Menoth.

Just to add in. The vassal will need the magic ability number when using his offensive spell.

Just like using focus or fury to add to the attack roll.
