With the new update to Daemons in Fantasy, Flamers got beaten pretty hard with the nerf stick. My question is this, are they still worth taking?

If so, please explain why.

If not, please offer up alternatives and why.

Flamers are now about as worth taking as all other BS-based shooting. If you are facing elite-level armies (chaos warriors, dwarfs, and especially certain swordmaster-heavy high elf builds or similar) they're still worth their weight in gold. Also, now that they're not rare, you can take TONS of them. They're also still pretty good in combat, at least for holding things up. I don't think they're must-take any more but I still think they're pretty solid.

that are more expensive, less effective, and potentially give the enemy regeneration for the rest of the game.

So how does simply fielding more of them make them any better? Seems the negatives now FAR out weigh the positives.

is it just me, or were all the rewrite/add-ons poorly written, unneccessary? I 've wanted to make a slannesh DoC army for years, but the models and rules are just terrible.

The flamers aren't worth it in my book for the price.

The soulgrinder without upgrades is allright, but the model doesn't fit in Fantasy (Ill have to convert a big ghorgon-like monster or something)

They only take it away for the shooting phase (or a phase they are in close combat) Kind of dicks over those Bloodletters, Daemonettes (EVERY OTHER DAEMON BESIDES TZEETCH) that do not have flaming attacks.

Also, remember, the regeneration stacks...

They are str4 now and unlike the old rules it doesn't say they ignore the multi-shot penalty, which is huge (unless it was on oversight). They went up in cost as well.

It's just as likely that the enemy takes d3 wounds with no armour saves as it is they get regeneration to be fair. Shoot something other than your opponent's main combat blocks.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this may prove to be a very long game.

They definitely can still stand and shoot. They are horrible in fantasy now, but they can still stand and shoot.

Stand and shoot was worded into Flames of Tzeentch in the army book. It isnt in the update.

But now it is worded as a normal shooting attack with a profile. Normal shooting attacks can stand & shoot.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. Even though they can stand and shoot, they aren't worth crap in fantasy. Screamers and fiends are wayyyyy better.

However, in 40k they rock now. So there's that.
