My idea is that gw implement some more drastically different game modes into 40k. The two I have come up with would be one which can be played on your own. Me and a friend created some basic rules and I'll post them at some point but it was very quick and quite good fun to play. THe game involved each character in your 1 squad acting individually: like in the videogame warhammer 40k squad command. We found this game could support multiple players or just one and involved dice controlled enemies that were alerted to your presence by any noise you make. i.e. gunfire.
The second idea would be a very quick skirmish mode. I know someone will probably just say use less troops but I'm talking larger skirmishes that would only take about an hour max+plus setup time. This would make it easier to fit games in with a busy schedule.
I'd appreciate peoples views on this. Thanks.

Sounds good. If you post up the details I'll make sure to play the modes.

There is already a "skirmish mode" in the battle missions book called Kill team. It's pretty good. The other games sounds interesting though, could you post some rules for it here?

Yeah i think i've played killteam a couple of times. I'm gonna start writing the rules straight away so will post them as soon as theyre finished.
The basic story for the singleplayer mode is that you control a squad of elites and each character has certain objectives. (i.e. assasinate a leader, destroy a building, exetra) against the player is a horde army like orks or tyranids controlled by the dice and responsive to the players actions. The rules will try to force the player to use stealth and present them with choices like do i risk firing my weapon to eliminate a sentry or do i try to knife him silently. The rules will make the squads much more flexible and allow you to mix and match characters from different squads in order to achieve your objectives. Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm struggling to think of a name for the game. Anyone got any ideas?

Focus on getting the rules working well first. The name can come later.

These are the rules I have written so far. They cover the basic rules of the game.
I will post the updates soon. Please post advice or ideas to help improve them.

I think I have finished the first playable set of rules. Although I'm not sure if I've missed anything. Could anyone play test the rules for me. (I would do it myself but I'm on holiday in France). Thanks,

I wonder...
Silencers for 30pts per model? It is a stealth mission after all. And the reason I put them high is because it wouldn't be fair to have an amazing squad all with silencers.

Hmmm maybe but I think it would make it too easy because it takes out the element of avoiding enemies rather than heading straight through them. If you have silencers on then the enemy wouldn't be alerted by your gunshots. And also a silencer on a lascannon? not going to work. Automatically Appended Next Post: However I could add silencers to pistols only. That way you could choose between opening fire with your pistol and risking failing to kill the target in exchange for not giving away your position. Or getting that decisive, immediate kill with your very noisy .75 caliber boltgun.

Snipers may purchase silencers? That would make it interesting. And silencer on lascannon will not work whatsoever, I agree with you.

That may work but I think I'd put some negatives on the silencer so you attach it and, yes its silences your gun, but it also dampens the power of your weapon so it may not kill instantly.

Removes 6" off range and reduces str by 1? For snipers they wound on a 5+ instead.

Reduces range. Doesn't need anything else IMO, but we'll see after playtesting.

I agree with silencers, but for maybe 10pts/model, as on a 5 man squad 30 pt silencers would be 150 pts, which is a bit steep. I do think that they should maybe reduce range by 6 inches, to a minimum of 6 inches
