Being an M4 noob, I am wodering about any visual differences that would prevent using M4A3's as M4A2's. As far as I can tell it was mostly internal with the engine and not external differences.

Yes, I know those differences. However the M4A2 was mostly lend lease. I'm looking to build Soviet lend lease and wondering about using PSC M4s and M4A3s.

I'm a self confessed rivet counter but in 15mm I wouldn't really be bothered about variant details other then gun size and possibly E8's and Firefly's.

Go for it, if anyone has a real problem tell them Aldramelech thinks you should get a life

The M4A2s were a welded hull design so they resembled the M4A3s in the picture above. As long as you don't use cast hull tanks like the M4A1 they will look fairly close.

Regardless, you can proxy anything as long as your opponent doesn't care.

But what about the hybrids and diesel engined variants?

Well, as long as I have Aldramelech's stamp of approval!

Big P, you are on the point I was getting at. Russians, or at least the ones used in the FoW lists, are stated as being M4A2s. Cosmetically, from 15mm to my untrained eye, they look like late M4A3s and I should be able to use PSCs.

I'm cheep and greedy and wasn't looking forward to shelling out for BF kits if I could help it. I already did that for T-34s.

I also haven't seen a side by side to see what they look like. Lend Lease Russians aren't played in my immediate area, hence my desire to bring something new to the area to the table.

Why not just use the PSC M4A2? Why use the M4A3 when they make the right one anyway? Or am I missing something...

http://theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_37_39_55&products_id=203

The Russians used just over 4100 of the diesel engined M4A2 with a 50-50 split between 75mm and 76mm versions.

The PSC M4A2 will do fine... Its what Im using for my Russian Lend-Lease Shermans!

The differences are minor and really don't matter much in 15mm, unless the guns are different. I wouldn't use generic M4A3s to count as 76mm Shermans, but for for M4A2s it shouldn't matter in the least. As long as you opponent knows what they are up front I don't know too many people who are going to complain about it. If they do feel free to give them a smack to bring them back to reality.
