WIP Painting Blog. First time using an airbrush to lay down base colors.

Cleaning up mold lines, glueing, drilling out bolter barrels 40 min



Laying out Dudes for priming




Priming with black auto primer 15 min



Inking Floor plates after spraying bolt gun metal on them 20 min



Airbrush work started on Generstealers 3 Levels with highlight 1.5 hours


Finished test Model for Genestealers 40 min


Started Airbrushing on Terminators 2 hours




Finished applying base colors and getting ready for shading and highlighting on 12 terminators aprox 8 hours


After shading and bringing up some detail, still have gems,extreme highlights and eyes left to paint. aprox 6 hours.







total time spent sofar 18-20 hours.

If you basecoat black you will get a lot more depth immediately and probably be able to skip your shading step... very nice! Always nice to see other Hulk sets!

@Tom, Completely agree. Since this was my first time with an airbrush I made the mistake of over blending and losing my contrast. I went from black to scab to mechrite to blood doing the spay at various angles method.

Thinking about it for the next time I'll do more contrasty colors and blend up so for a red I'll start with a dark purple then do blood to a blood/orange then oil wash in the recesses to give it more pop.

Nice job on your first AB attempt Dave. Also have to applaud you for taking the time to drill out the bolter holes with an appropriately sized drill bits. Can't tell you how many times I've seen a model with drilled with the pinning drill bit that leaves a tiny little hole. Anyhow...look forward to seeing the gene stealers.
