Hello!

My fiancee is looking to try her hand at painting this weekend. She like orks, and so we've picked up a box of 4 ork boyz. She's determined to paint them with purple skin, which is cool... I've seen a fair few purple ork armies on these pages, and they look awesome when well executed.

She's chosen the "overall" colour to be Genestealer Purple, so I'm thinking the following for quick and simple decent results (I'm no great shakes as a painter, and she's a rank novice):

Base with Naggaroth Night
Layer with Genestealer Purple
Wash with Nuln Oil (or maybe Druchii Violet if Nukln Oil sounds too harsh?)
Drybrush with Lucius Lilac

As a complete beginner, I reckon that will be a good, quick and dirty nice-looking paint job if executed well. Anyone have any better ideas on how to achieve a good Genestealer Purple skin tone for these cheeky fellas?

Basically, I'm looking to have her produce something she really likes so she becomes hooked on painting, letting me hand her my 5000+ points of unpainted marines and telling her to get cracking ;-)

Cheers in advance!

I take it people think my paint choice will achieve the desired results? I'm looking to pick up the paints this afternoon.

I think it sounds like a great paint scheme. Alternative coloured orks always look cool imo. I've done human-flesh tone orks in the past. What colour eyes are you going to use? A thought would be scorpion green or another bright green to make them really stand out. Going with red eyes would probably blend to much with the purple. Whats the plans with the orks armour/clothing? any particular colours your going to use for that?

Unsure yet. I'm obviously letting my fiancée have ultimate choice for her 4 ork boys, but I have just picked up my first irks (AoBR) and will likely base mine off hers, if they turn out cool and if she enjoys painting. Then we can paint them together :-)

I'm currently thinking dark colours, maybe black or very deep red, with yellow and/or silver detailing. But as I said, it's her choice. The process trumps the output in this case.

Cheers!

You could have a look at how I painted my purple skinks over at Lustria Online, it may not be the effect you want, though...

It's quite a fast way to paint. You can get a brighter tone if you mix with ceramite white instead of bleached bone, or a darker tone by using the purple straight from the pot instead of mixing it..
