Librarian - Terminator Armor, Storm Shield, Force Halberd, Null Zone + Vortex of Doom

Dreadnought - 2x Autocannon Arms

2x Tactical Squads w/ Plasma Gun + Plasma Cannon, Rhino

1x Tactical Squad w/ Melta Gun + Plasma Cannon, Sergeant w/ Melta, Rhino

2x Stormtalons w/ Typhoon Missile Launchers

Contemptor Mortis w/ Kheres Assault Cannons and Cyclone Missile Launcher

Pretty much... objective missions, hide out my Librarian with one of the combat squads, victory point mission, hide the librarian with a squad while they gunline up.

Stormtalons for air support and anti air duties, as well as the contemptor mortis. If there's no air, I can unleash 20 Assault Cannon shots into squads down range.

The main weakness I'll have is Land Raiders, but, the best way to deal with a Land Raider, generally, is to ignore it, especially if i don't have the firepower for it. If it's a Crusader, it's even easier to ignore.

The Librarian will take psychic powers depending on my opponent; Air targets might benefit from some Objuration Mechanicum coming their way (especially necron flyers with tesla), Orks will get some Pyromancy, Telepathy for Coteaz/Stormtrooper armies, etc.

What do you guys think? I'd primarily use this for tournaments, so, any input would be greatly appreciated.

First I'd check to see if the wacky dread is OK with your local tournament. As I don't know it's rules, I can't give you much help.

I also can't recommend just ignoring AV14 stuff. I'd try to get some metla/MM in your list. Swapping out plasma is the easy fix, working in some speeders/attack bikes requires more of a re-write.

Most tournaments allow Imperial Armour stuff in the tournaments around here, though it doesn't hurt to double check.

The Mortis is an Armor 13/12/11 Dread, has skyfire/interceptor if it stands still, has 2 kheres assault cannons (Heavy 6 assault cannon), BS5 and an Invulnerable Save (5+ vs Shooting).

Wow. Does it at least have the common decency to cost a boatload of points?

215 with the Cyclone Missile Launcher and Kheres, so, yeah. (180 without)

Can't find much better for anti air duties for 215 in the Vanilla Marines army, though. (my Autocannon dread has let me down multiple times in this regard)

It replaced scouts, who have also let me down on multiple occasions. 2 hits a turn? Time for them to go back to the box.

So, it's 12 Assault cannon shots and 2 Missile Launcher shots aimed at the first flyer to have the decency to come onto the board... at BS5.

Why on earth spend over 600pts on tac squads and not spend the extra 30 to double their efficiency on the move? Why?

I'd consider some missile launchers in the list to deal with Av 14 and swap a squad or two to triple melta.

You basically autolose to nob bikerz with no S10 in the list and i just don't think you have enough threat. Yeah you're anti-air is well covered and you've decent if not spectacular anti-tank. But you're going to struggle to do enough damage to infantry and bike heavy armies. Also daemon flying circus armies will cause you serious problems as will archon wedges with fortuned shadowfields.

A decent pick up game army but triple tac squads all at half efficiency just leaves you with too little threat at 1500. You should be playing at least 1850-2000 to justify 3 full tac squads.

Hows:

Librarian - Epistolary

2x Tactical Squad - Plasma Gun + Cannon, Rhino

1x 2x AC dread

2x Stormtalons w/ Typhoons

2x Vindicators w/ Dozer Blades

1x Contemptor Mortis w/ 2x Kheres + CML

-1480

Gives me 20 points of wiggle room to figure out, and some S10, decent anti termi, fliers, good anti flier, and a lot of threats that my opponent has to deal with.

Why still no combi weapons on the Tac squad sergeants? Why pay 200+ points for a Tac squad but not willing to pay 10 points to nearly double its effectiveness against its primary targets? Why?

Other than that it is a big improvement. Would sill consider dropping the plasma cannons on at least 1 squad for something that can snap fire.

Must say I'd be a bit annoyed if someone brought that monstrously useful dread out against me in a tourney. But that's off topic I guess.

I'd take MM in the tacs over PC. PC is good now but you can't beat MM in tacs, plus their range meshes great with the PG.

Have you got a new plan for the librarian? What powers are you taking to justify epistolary?

That Mortis Pattern Dreadnought is a massive pain as my Ork horde discovered as it just mowed things down. Lootas eventually made it run away and seek some cover but it may be a tad overpowered for its cost.

I think your list is pretty good although at 1500 points I personally try and take 3 Troops choices generally to make sure I can claim an objective or two.

When building lists under the new rulesare you giving any consideration to the 3 new secondary objectives of Slay the Warlord; Linebreaker and First Blood? I think Dreadnoughts could end up giving up first blood if you are not careful and you do not have much in the way of denial or scoring units so Linebreaker could also be a problem for you.

Is the sky fire/ interceptor rule standard for immobile dreads or the mortis one only? Is this in the 6th rule book?

The Contemptor Mortis is an Imperial Armour unit, and only it (and the Dark Angels only non-contemptor version as well) get Interceptor + Skyfire as long as they are stationary.

@Hialmar - If there's an objective mission, my tactical squads would be sent up in combat squads to try to get linebreaker. In Kill Point missions, I'm already at a disadvantage, with 11 Victory Points (12 with Slay the Warlord) on the board. The best thing I can do is bunker up in some ruins and force them to come to me.

I am currently using the Plasma Cannon due to a high (very high) amount of Horde / Infantry heavy armies in my local meta. They tend to roast any and all infantry and can do a good job against non - 13/14 vehicles. Though, when I get some Multi-Melta models, I might consider running Melta Gun / Multi Melta squads instead.

@Flingitnow - If I find some models with combi weapons, I might consider giving my sergeants combi weapons. The main reason I don't have any is because the only places to get combi weapons is the Commander / Sternguard kits, and my Combi Meltas are being saved for a kitted out Sternguard squad...

I might consider dropping the Plasma Guns/Cannons to Melta Guns / Missile Launchers (for the moment), giving 40pts of wiggle room. Maybe make the Libby a TEQ w/ SS?

The Plasma Guns have served me well, but it's something to think about with this list.

Maybe look around for tutorials on making combimeltas, there's a lot of ways to do it even if you have no meltagun parts.
