So I play mono-Slaanesh, these new chariots seem like a good addition however I'm not quite sure which to go with. Well besides the Hellflayer of course, but for discussion's sake it shall be involved as well.

Looking over them they have sort of three roles; glass dagger, glass hammer and glass serrated dagger.

So we have the normal chariot.
It has two hp and fleet; the base for the other two. With the amount of hullpoints it has it looks pretty fragile to me, the ability to take them in a squadron up to three could sort of help this. But, another thing that leads to these points being important is the Fleshshredder; looks like the main point to taking these in the first place. What this means is when these hit combat, they'll be doing 2D6 hammer of wrath attacks at S4 with rending. Sounds nice, but I doubt they will ever make it to combat on full health. In fact out of a squadron of three, I'm going to guess maybe two will make it most of the time. However these are pretty cheap at just 10 points more than a fiend. Fleet seems alright I guess, it isn't what it used to be of course.

Then we have the exalted chariot.
Has four hp and seems to feel a little solid; or as solid as most Slaanesh units get.
This means it has the potential of getting 4D6 hammer of wrath attacks on the charge which sounds nice, however like the normal chariots I doubt most will get there with all their points left. This chariot and the normal one look to me like they rely on their charge to do the damage with the rider hoping to clean up afterwards. This one is understandably the most expensive, sitting in at the price of three fiends.

Then there is the Hellflayer.
Stuck by itself, unlike the other two, and just as fragile as the normal chariot. However its bonus comes in the form of Soulscent; awarding the rider bonus attacks equal to the amount of unsaved wounds caused by Hellflayer's HoW attacks. These are just normal chariot HoW attacks though, so it will always be 1D6, but at S6 AP-. Against Orks I guess it would work somewhat, but against something like marines I doubt you could expect to ever see too many. Of course for added fun the fluff part of this update shows the Hellflayer has the Fleshshreader; however the segment with the points cost doesn't list it. Something to look forward to I suppose as one way it will always have those normal chariot HoW attacks, while the other it can have up to 2D6 S4 rending attacks instead. This one sits in between the two at the price of two fiends.

The big question is; which one is the most cost effective out of the normal and exalted chariots? And then should they be run as a full squadron of three or would it be possible to get away with simply having a pair as a team?

I have been trying to figure out if they are really worth taking or not. Assuming you need some answer to hoards in your list, they are a strong option and can't be hurt by S 4 shooting most of the time.

Id probably run them in groups of 3 with 1 exalted and take at least 2 unit of them.

Hmm, that might work.

I feel like using chariots will force you to pick up a few soul grinders to spread the anti tank weapons.
1 unit of 3 chariots and 2 soul grinders would pose a "what to shoot" problem.
That's 12 hull points (if memory serves) and they all do well at killing.
If all went to plan the soul grinders AV13 should just soak up most of the fire power so the chariots don't get shot to bits.

That's just how I'd run them.
Demons, with armour, who knew :p

You need 5+ to glance the chariots and 7+ to glance the grinders those are kinda different classes of weapons I think you would be better served with fiends and FMC to go with it. everything is in assault turn two that way. Fate weaver lets them re-roll their 5+ saves too.

They look pretty useful for anti-horde, but I'm not convinced they'd be as useful in an 'all-comers' army. A fabulous fire magnet and distraction while it charges directly at the enemy, but would those points be better spent elsewhere?

In a mono-Slaanesh force, I can see some synergy between exalted chariots and Soul Grinders though...

they still have a 5 up makes them a little tougher to kill, throw them somthing like fateweaver and you got a good chance of getting into combat
