Well with the new 6th edition out, I would expect the new Nid dex out shortly. 5th gave some neat critters, but as I usually wind up against Blood Angels,

it is an absolute bear getting past the shooty things.

The mysetic spores are great for delivery, but as soon as the creatures bail, they get blasted. What ever happened to fleet?
I'm hoping it comes back and at least is allowed for lictors, steelers to do an leadership test, if passed they can assault on arrival. Without it, lictors simply jump out of nowhere and get shot to pieces - totally useless.

Ravners likewise were a fantastic assault critter, but again even as beast, they pop up and get slaughtered while they stand there, at least allow a leadership test, and forgoing shooting in order to assault.

Steelers should also get back flesh hooks or have spinefists as offensive grenades.

And to be fair for the possible victims, allow them an alert roll (leadership) to see if they can react and fire a defensive volley before all hell breaks loose.

There should be a little clarification on Mysetic Spores. They are immobile monsters with a tentacle range of 6 inches. Should they not be able to drag anything in range into an assault or pummel a blundering vehicle [if they can find and hit it]?
Being a monster they can still do some damage before a melta wastes it.

Zoeys were too good to last. Now it seems the psychic abilities are castrated. And I just got used to rolling against psychic hoods.
One thing they should have is eliminate the 2 inch coherancy for a brood and give them 12 inches for synapse.

The poor Doom is a one shot massacre if you are lucky, for it normally dies at the end of the opponents shooting phase. I guess its cheap enough.

Monsters too are a challenge as they should be independent and not need coherancy. They just get in each other's way.

The last gripe is the Shadow of the Warp. Nids are totally different and psychic battles should be very rare. Any defense againt them would be complex unless its a libarian or nid hunter.

Any other nid players with dreams?

I have no idea why you would think a new Nid dex is coming soon. It is a relatively recent book while DA, chaos, tau, eldar, bt, ig and even SWs are older. SoB got the WD stop gap even if it is newer. Sadly the craptastical Nid dex will likely be a long time off.

Expect a new Nid codex in around 3 years mate. If GW is kind.

And 10 if they aren't.

DE waited upwards of a decade for a new dex.

Orks are from about 2008 iirc (though still a decent codex)

GW doesn't update every army every edition, just Marines

To be fair, Tyranids are one of the few xeno races that haven gotten a codex every edition, and were one of GW's best selling xeno lines (though I haven't heard anything from that front since the 5th edition codex). It's not unreasonable to think that GW would use the new edition to revive the line and get them selling again.

That said, there's been no news from the rumour mill on Tyranids getting anything of any kind other than a Harpy model, which might or might not be a dual kit with something getting rules in White Dwarf.

If Tyranids get a codex in 6th edition - which I admit, is likely folloing the trend of the Tyranid range - it won't be until late 2013 to 2014. The rumour mill is suggesting a lot of upcoming stuff to fill the rest of this year and all of next year, and Tyranids aren't in it outside of the Harpy.

To actually get back on topic - all of the suggestions are simply ways to fix the 5th edition codex. We don't need a Tyranid version of the 4th edition Tau book - the 5th edition codex doesn't need to be fixed, it needs a complete redo by someone who understands the range and the expectations of the players. GW is all about cinematic experiences, which lend themselves well to the old dinosaur-bugs, but is something that needs good design. They need to make Tyranids feel like an alien army again, rather than the bland mess they are now.

Basically, they need to let Phil Kelly write the book.

Well they just invested in a couple new models - tyrannofex/tervagon, and the classic battle is SM vs Nids.

And I expect a couple years [that is soon fro GW] to pass before anything.

But perhaps they are just waiting for some good suggestions before updating.... and if they wait too long.....we'll just go back to 4th and start biomorphing again.

Just so you know the design process - they don't take suggestions. These threads? Meaningless in the grand scheme. While I don't doubt some designers read forums occasionally, they don't go looking on them for ways to do their job. A designer makes a draft of his idea for the book, with what kits will be needed, and takes the idea to management. They approve or reject it. If it's approved, he sticks to his idea unless sales step in and request changes (as Mat Ward admitted they do).

So don't think making these suggetions will magically make them happen, or if they do happen, that it was anything do with some random Dakka thread.

Nid 'fortifications' for them to use would be good

A decent FAQ like BT and a WD release is about the best we can hope for.

Well while I'm dreaming, Something neat would be if Primes had beast option (body - move like ravners)

They'd be like commisars. Especially with 2 boneswords, and the ability to get synapse where it is needed. They might even have onslaught like tervys.

I noted someone else lamented the glut of elites. A HQ Tyrant should have an HQ retinue or support units -[ Hive guards, zoeys, venomthropes, biovores] and allow them to attach to different units like support weapons.

Elites seem better restricted to Ymgaryl, Lictors, Doom, and the Parasite.

Zoeys seem more heavys with the warp lance.

Well here's biomorphing hopes.......

Well, just to get you a bit more hopeful, there's news of a tyranid flyer wave, instead of just a harpy.

Rumours include a harpy, mycetic spore, retooled warrior box which includes wings (and I assume bonesword/lashwhip making the resin pack a quick stop gap), and redone rules for the Pyrovore making it an AA beast.

What makes me dubious is the rumour also mentions a 'harrier', which I assume is a misspelling of harridan. Honestly don't see that happening.

Yeah, changing the Pyrovore into AA would be lame. The idea behind Pyrovores is awesome, they just need their rules/stats reworked. Changing them to AA reeks of, "How can we get this model that doesn't sell to sell? Oh, we'll make it AA and everyone will be forced to buy it to deal with all the flyers." Then Pyrovores will still be an unpopular unit for many as a unit of skyfire weapons can either be great or a total waste of points depending on how many flyers you face.

I believe they already made that model in forge world unless your saying GW might supply us with they're own model of a Harridan than can't wait,

as for the new codex I really doubt there would be anymore any time soon GW still needs to update some races before the nids get another codex

I'm not expecting a new codex anytime in the next couple of years, but am hoping to see some updates (like the recent Chaos Daemons treatment) in the near future. I personally think making the Pyrovore an AA unit would be nice. If they want to sell Pyrovores, that would certainly push me to pick some up. I think the main problems with the 'Nids that I'd like to see changed revolves around reserves (e.g. tunnel/pheromones 'timing' issues) and 'swarm assaults' (i.e. Lictors not 'dormant'; no special MTC and/or 'grenade' rules).

Bugs and Greenskins FTW!

Something that was pointed out to me - the Harrier might not be a misspelt Harridan, it might be a variant Harpy for anti air duties.

I'm still dubious though, due to this being a rather large update for GWs redheaded stepchild.

I like the Pyrovores. Much more nidish, I plan to get a couple to use as Biovores.

Perhaps they will rework the model into plastic with a few gun options, spore mortar, flamespurt, quad venom rifle.....Ooo shotgun blast self stearing quils(from guard) 36" range like a Zoo23-4.
Have different heads and middle sections [like a saddle]

A harry.... Maybe a harpy that can hover.....or worse ... drop a brood of steelers/gaunts.. 4 lictors.... right into an assault... ok that borders on psychotic.

And gaunts....they are still overpriced.

A spore delivers 20 with devourers....60 shots..... and at the end, one dead blood angel, and that was caused by a tentacle from the spore.
And either Seth or Mephiston wiped out a brood in two turns. Arrrrg. [definately new dice time]

Synapse should give a +6 invunerable warp field or maybe FnP. That would help Warriors a little bit, maybe a +5 inv for Primes.
