Some questions about the "Hit and Run" USR.

1) If a character has the Hit and Run USR, then he confers that rule to any unit he joins. When you use hit and run you have to pass an initiative test before you can attempt to escape close combat. So the question is, which initiative value do you use if the unit's and the character's initiative characteristics are different? I it the character's, or the majority characteristic? I can't find anything in the book that says which, but I could be blind.

2) After the unit has made it's initiative test, it says to "pick a direction and then roll 3D6." If the distance rolled on the 3D6 is enough to move every model in the unit to at least 1" away from the opposing unit, then you've escaped combat and you move your unit that many inches in that direction. Ok....so the question is, what happens if a model from the unit is forced to leave the board because to a large roll on the 3D6 and the (poor) choice of direction? Is the entire unit destroyed, or just that model, or niether?

1. Page 7, Characteristic Test, 4th bullet point, you use the highest value.

2. When moving you cannot voluntarily move off the board, so I would say you do not move off the board but move the full distance to the board edge and stop.

Thanks for #1.

For #2, are you "voluntarily" moving off of the board if you're required to move the full 3D6 inches and that takes you off of the board? I think this is the sticking point.

Yes, you are still voluntarily moving off the board. Hit and Run is a voluntary action, you are not required to escape combat you can escape combat. It is not like you are running away so I say it still counts. Even the Daemon gift Pavane of Slaanesh, an attack that lets the Daemon player move your unit d6" in any direction, cannot take you off the table.
